Fleet Foxes

I for one won't be going to the Pyramid Stage to see them. I saw them at the Custard factory in Brum last October... and they were spellbinding. Really very good, the vocals were some of the best I've heard live, certainly for a long time. I don't have the album myself, and have only heard it a few times, but in a small, intimate venue their stuff comes over really well.

They'll be wasted on the Pyramid Stage.

I agree, but not based on the fact that they aren't any good...it all depends on the kind of music you like. Me, I love "americana" for want of a better term....Giant Sand, Midlake, Sufjan, Band of Horses, My Morning Jacket etc etc...all some of my favourite bands/artists and I hear bits of all of them in Fleet Foxes. As exponents of this genre, they are superb, but if none of the above are your bag then you probably won't get Fleet Foxes either. I'm quite surprised as to the level of "mainsteam" success they seem to be getting though, seems primarily to be based on critical acclaim, then people listen to them and think, "Oh, not what I was expecting...I don't like them". So, Pyramid is a strange slot for them. I'd prefer to see them indoors, and the acoustic tent has the best sound so I'd plump for there!...

Just watch Dava's video. (Up the Wirral!)

What a voice that fella has. I think it is goin over many peoples heads on account of the current shitty Jack Penate, Calvin Harris, etc sound that is about at the moment. Some people are just not tuned into this sound and its a shame. Perhaps Robin's fringe is not angled enough for some. His jeans not ball strangling enough?

This band need to be given some respect. Last year they shat on absolutely everyone with their self tilted album.

...Giant Sand were/are great. Howe Gelb's band that included Joey Burns and the other lad from Calexico (before they went on to form Calexico)...has a bit of a rotating lineup these days. Also check out Songs:Ohia if you haven't before (Jason Molina's band before Magnolia Electric Co), more along the same lines!...

Oh, and of course midlake!

I think it's great Fleet Foxes are on the Pyramid stage: they are a very different band to everything else on the Pyramid and their harmonies are just beautiful.

They remind me of a cross between Simon & Garfunkel and The Beach Boys.

If the sun is out when they play it just might be a perfect moment.

I for one will be there.

personally I love them, album and accompanying EP were some of my favourites of 2008, even the first EP from 2006 has some amazing moments although they never play any of those songs anymore.

I also have my reservations about them playing pyramid stage... I saw them at the roundhouse earlier this year, and there are some songs that require a very patient quiet crowd, (sun giant, tiger mountain peasant song) however the volume of a main stage, if the sound is just right, might just cancel this problem.

I think i'm also right in saying this is the biggest gig they have played, after only playing the 2nd stage at coachella. good luck to them !

I'll be at Fleet Foxes and glad it won't be too packed as most of you seem like you'll be elsewhere. :)

Your Protector is one of my favourite tracks from the last year

But can't believe FF are a discussion point when the T*ng T@ngs will get a 20-30000 crowd in their slot on the other stage. Now THAT is unbelieveable!! :)

At risk of sounding like old bloke "they don't make em like they used to", I'm just feeling that music is going a bit too soft in all genres at the minute and I'm really missing something with more grit, more aggression and over the last couple of years everything has gone a bit too nicey nicey.

This includes my fallback of dance music where the only dirt is really with some Drum and Bass and some Dubstep.

It wasn't long ago that we had loads, Early Kings of Leon, QOTSA, The Strokes, The Vines all much meatier than the current trend with the exception of Kasabian who seem to have hit their third album running.

This is of course only my opinion so please don't get all aggro over it, otherwise my psychiatrist won't let me go to the festival with all the nasty people.

the OP said he wouldn't be wasting his time 'over their drivel'....well i can't believe i've wasted my time reading some of the drivel written in this thread. If you don't like a band fairplay- but comments like these are ridiculous (i can't remember who said what)-

"music for scenesters"

"the guardian says they're cool so everyone creams themselves",

"fleet foxes remind me of goldfrapp- airy fairy music"

and my personal favourite-

"fodder for "art school" types who want to sound interesting when expressing their taste in music.

The critics would never agree because they are generally of this type too but the Kasabian and Doves albums knock the absolute shit out of the Fleet Foxes album"

:)

fleet foxes couldn't be less 'scene' or 'art school'

the critics were pretty unanimous on the album-

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
    • Think this will be it...I think they are a level above trees.
