What about a cultural stage that has a mix of all things worldly, could get Flight of the Concords to represent New Zealand!

But a mix of chinese, indian, african and the like, unless there already is a stage like that.

Everyone is saying about making some kind of hip-hop stage or diversity stage or something but there is already one! The Jazzworld stage has most of the hip-hop and world acts that are booked, and a few are on the pyramid stage. Glastonbury can't really do much more to be diverse, this years pyramid stage has white brits, black brits, americans, africans, australians and jamaicans. I don't think there is much more the festival can do tbh.

It'd be incredibly difficult to practice Islam in a field in pilton for 5 days.

What with the food most likely not being halal

The difficulty in praying at certain times of the day

Open Alcohol/Drug Use

and Hog Roast

and also the fact that Music is sort of semi-forbidden in some sects

So I feel this factors in the lack of Asian/Muslims at the event. I am however very surprised at the lack of black people at Glastonbury though. It's a Mystery.

one of the good things about Glastonbury is precisely that it doesn't make the difference between black or white acts, and anyone can be on just about any stage... what do you want, a stage for black artists?

Firstly, Hip Hop/R&B does not equal black.

You are right however that Glastonbury does sprinkle the stages with different acts, I would just like to see more of them. The dance Village has made a huge impact in terms of dance music at Glastonbury, AND you still get some dance on the main stages. Something similar for a music genre that has a huge following in the UK would be welcome as far as I am concerned.

I think the music that is available will reflect the audience that it attracts, indie seems to be dominant genre at festivals these days (a few none white friends I have can't stand indie).

But that's not to say that the festival doesn't cater for all colour/creed/cultures .. as a couple of the 1st bands that I had seen in Glastonbury were Asian Dub Foundation & Ladysmith Black Mambazo. (2000)

(They were fantastic btw and Asian Dub Foundation really got the crowd going)

I myself don't really like the ides of M.O.B.O, but what about splitting the Jazz World stage up into two, keeping 1 as a Jazz stage and the other as a World stage with both predominantly catering for the audience that its namesake would suggest.

Jazz just for Jazz and World for anything else from other cultures.

I know that the Jazz World stage does that already but maybe splitting it into two would give it more diversity, aswell as choice.

Or maybe I'm just typing complete bollocks lol :lol:

while Glastonbury has a variety of acts/genres, it's the main stage headliners and the indie/pop bands that get the vast majority of the press. I would think that very many people simply aren't aware that it has the diversity that it does, which would then lead them to ignore much they might get to hear about it, thinking its not for them.

I agree. Of course anyone can set up any kind of awards ceremony they want, with whatever rules they want, but I always thought the MOBOs were an unnecessary step backwards, encouraging segregation rather than fighting it.

To be honest I've never really understood what "Music Of Black Origin" even means. It's just music, like any other. Labelling it as "Black Music" seems completely counter-productive to me. It makes even less sense when MOBO awards go to non-black people performing "Black Music". Surely that in itself shows that the term "Black Music" has no real meaning?

Only festival i have seen which has a noticable proportion of ethnic minorities was love music / hate racism in viccy park. Its got nothing to do with race and everything to do with class as far as im concerned.

I'm still pissed off London doesn't have a LMHR event this summer (thanks Boris); it's great fun and really has a wide mix of people in attendance. Was always a good day out!

But it was not a festival, it was a free one-day event very different to glastonbury.
