Skins is bigger than the inbetweeners. Saying that, I prefer Inbetweeners by far. (Met Will from it too the other week) Trust me, the trailer for the show with that song got them big in teen cirles. And most teenagers I know watch Skins.

What's the Arctic Monkeys gimmick then? They're popular because they have brilliant songs and clever lyrics. IMO obviously, but I still have no idea what you think their gimmick is.

So Beth Ditto taking any chance to get naked applies to Arctic Monkeys showing real talent and building up a small army of a fan base before even releasing an album? Arctic Monkeys got famous for all the right reasons.

Actualy The Inbetweeners got consistently around 300,000 more viewiers than Skins for the most recent series, and I seriously know nobody who watches skins because its terrible!

Ahhh. I failed to look at the most Inbetweeners season 2 numbers. But looking at the season 1 (Less than half a million per episode) and skins 1 (advert with the trailer) was around the same as the number Inbetweeners is now. And nothing against you though, just interested are you a teenager or older? 'cause I would assume/hope those over 21ish don't watch it really. And I'm 18 as are my mates and they all watch it.

And as for Skins being terrible, I loved the first series, enjoyed the 2nd, thought the third was poor.

SO IN CONCLUSION

That has not a lot to do with the original post, except that Gossip are popular amongst teens, and that song is a strong factor as to why.

ALSO about Arctic Monkeys being media whores - how else are they gonna survive? Not many bands can without the help of those with lots of moneys. Now I don't believe that the Arctic Monkeys are the 2nd coming of the Beatles that some claim them to be, but they're not THAT bad either. I'm not a fan by any means but they're not as horrific as people make them out to be.

Bollocks. The Arctic Monkeys were massively popular before the media had even given them any attention. They're popular because their music is excellent and they gave it away for free.

Arctic monkey have had a number of succesfull singles and albums due to this "gimick". The Gossip have had one single.

You cant not compare them.

The Gossip are a one hit wonder who shouldn't be able to headline any stage at any festival

First of all, the 'gimmick' which I was referring to was the whole 'working-class' ethos that is associated with the Arctics, along with the fact you can easily argue their rise to fame was helped by the fact the nation needed a new Libertines. I'm not claiming that's the only reason they're famous, and it wouldn't make them a worse band if it were true anyway, but you can't deny it's likely. I didn't specify because I assumed you'd have heard it all before, just like everyone's already heard 'The Gossip are only famous because their singer's fat!'. It was blatantly obvious I wasn't trying to compare them outright...

Yeah but in fairness no one had heard of them before Standing In The Way Of Control because they were relatively unknowns. They've had one hit, I don't even rate them as a cult band with a huge following like The Cribs. Last time they played they were 6th down the bill on the Main Stage and definately haven't grown in popularity since then.
