Hey all,

Decided to go abroad this year for a number of reasons, and was looking at Nova Rock last 2 years, line up looks consistently good, has anyone been there before? And more importantly is it any good? Oh and if you know any similar alternatives shout up too!

I went to this in 2007....really good laugh, camping is crazy and there is hardly any english there so all the austrians wana talk to you as tho your some sort of celeb! cool tho......the 2 headliners this year look a little weak so will prob not go next year.

Travelling advice - Get a Ryanair flight to Bratislava in Slovakia as its only like 10/12 miles away from the festival even tho theyre different countries.....cos Vienna is like the other side of austria to Nova Rock.... And i tell you a night out in Bratislava is a crazy adventure in itself!

I went in a group of 6 or 7 of us last year and it was absolutely awesome. The bands, organisation and campers were all spot on. If only UK festivals were as good!! Definately looking at heading back this year if some more decent heavier acts start appearing on the lineup.

And yeah in regards to travel, what r0w said is about right. we flew to Bratislava a few days before, had a right booze up for a couple of nights and found the details we needed to get us there from tourist info. stocked up on booze in the Tesco's in Bratislava, got a train with 1 change that took us to Nickelsdorf and then got the shuttle bus to the site which altogether can't have cost more than 15 or 20 quid.

My boyfriend and I are coming from Australia for Rock am Ring and have decided to get to Nova Rock as well! Should be really good.

We've planned to go to Bratislavia like was suggested in here.

If there's any advice you all could give to us, having never done a european festival before, it would be great.

Thanks,

-Noodle

both FNM and Metallica will play on the first night of the festival. is there any information that the two bands will play at the same time on the two separate stages (like the two headliner bands), or they will follow each other on the main stage? i don't want to choose between the two bands, i want to see all my favorites. • No worries, it's a perfectly fair question to ask. I would expect people to be talking at the back & near the bars & that is where I would want them to be talking. If your group are enjoying yourselves & the music & briefly chatting to say how much you are loving a certain song etc, you would be an ideal group to stand behind.   My issue is with people having full blown conversations (usually unrelated what is on the stage) whilst being surrounded by people who are trying to listen to the music. This was happening in the middle and towards the front of all stages, & so you have limited options to move around & you may have spent 20 minutes waiting for the band trying to get the closest position that you can. If there's a group of 8 people, there may be 2 or 3 that like the band & the rest will start talking if the music isn't their thing. This may be the norm now for festivals, and if it is, that's ok & I will focus on a band's own gigs & UK based new music festivals.    I'm also not including consequences of my own decision making. I saw Geese on Wednesday so went to Occident after Men I Trust finished so it was understandable there would be chatting that far back. Similarly, getting to The XX after Olivia Rodrigo along with most of the site, I knew my chance of a good spot & a chat-free zone had gone so that was completely reasonable.   PS. I went to Bilbao BBK in 2023 & 2025 & enjoyed it. For Pulp & Kylie in 2025, I got a position early & was surrounded by a respectful & fun crowd for both. The UK non-headlining bands tend to go on the undercover 3rd stage, & most people like to congregate outside so you can usually get close to the front of that stage.
    • Interview on 6 music earlier, was going to get the album to have a listen, but comes out the day they play the festival
    • Additional dates added already
    • I feel like it's not COMPLETELY beyond the realm of possibility that they could headline but I just don't see it.    They're not doing anything other than headlining. So nah, I don't see it.
    • Consider that the sound quality can be better near the front bars right behind the soundbooth rather than closer to the stage, like with mbv. And of course, the front sections are full of talkers too.   The most courteous move would be to have conversations in the very back of the field.
