I know I may be sort of repeating myself here but... Having our backpacking backpacks in our tents... Will this be a security issue? I'm really afraid to get robbed of all my stuff. Do people break into tents often? It's not like they really have much security to them (the tents)... :)

I'm thinking about storing our things somewhere in Korblenz but am a little worried that the options may be limited due to the large number of people going through the area...

Help? :P

There are repeatedly reports of theft at RaR, even though I personally never witnessed anything. As a general rule, don't have a wallet full of credit cards, cameras, passports and MP3 players flying around in the tent, then you should be fine. And don't put a lock at it, that only increases the risk of something being stolen.

It is vital to become friends with the groups camping around you, so they have an eye on your tent as well. Maybe after day one they even let you put your belongings into a car of theirs, for the payment of some beers or so. As I said, with keeping those precautions at mind, nothing happened to me, and I have been 3 times.

In my experience of festivals it's good practice to put a lock on your tent, just lock the zips together with a suitcase style pad lock. If a theif is wandering around a camp site he/she will have literally thousands of options and will probably go for a tent that does not have a lock on it before one that has. My tent has inner rooms and we put locks on them aswell. The important thing is to not make it blatently obvious that you are locking your tent, do it covertly and try to hide the lock from view if possible. If you do that you can head off for the day with little worry (not that you should be worried if you dont have a lock on your tent - in general thefts from tents are rare at these type of events. Just be smart and dont leave your tent wide open.)

carsharing. Last year we even rented a car.

re locks: I think a thief would figure that you wouldn't lock your tent unless you had something valuable in it. I just leave my tent a mess, and don't leave anything of value in it. Usually works. But then again our group was 50+ people last year with a wast variance of music tastes, so there was always somebody to watch our tents.
