How would you do Glastonbury differently next time?
CaledonianGonzo replied to kalifire's topic in Chat
We're approaching the 30th anniversary of the first televised festival - and at this point its now been a televised event for far longer than the period when it wasn't. Any changes anyone's over the last decade or so of festivals are nothing to do with TV cameras. -

Probably just fine? Might as well ask how the posh hippies interviewed in the Glastonbury Fayre documentary would cope with NYC Downlow or Arcadia. -

But that still reflects society. Things are way less tribal these days. -

Glastonbury 2022 - overcrowding rumours & thoughts

It's making something worse in the name of "fixing" a non-existent issue. I've been to festivals with one way systems and turnstiles into the pit and it's absolutely ghastly. -

If in doubt you can usually expect to see something in the right spirit on West Holts (unless Sleaford Mods are on) -
Maybe this is the issue in that there are probably places in the crowd that are worse for it than others. Right at the very front / in the pit are the hardcore fans who're wholly invested in it. Right at the back uts way more casual but there's lots of room to move away from people hashing the vibe. But somewhere neither here nor there puts you square in the middle of bawbag central.

And you'll always find it given the vast multitude of stages. -

But the 'bucket list' people will likely do all that as well....? And if they don't then chances are they only go the once. Not everyone can get in on good vibes alone. -

So what - in your opinion - is the correct reason for going? -
Anything that can go soggy or cold is usually a bad idea, so things like chips are usually a poor call. Whereas things like curries or other stew-type foods lose nothing by warming in a pot for a few hours so can be reliable stand-bys.

With the exception of ELO, every legend slot since Dolly in 2014 has been an absolute blast. Been in the pit for all of them and its always one of the highlights of the weekend. Folk saying they should knock it on the head are like Scrooge on Xmas Eve.

Yeah - was a blast. They're such a fun band. Good to see The Steps as an encore closer - recognition that its a Grade A banger.

Got through in the Amex presale. Hyde Park here I come.

Probably won't be enough demand for a second Edinburgh show - don't think any of his Hampden shows have ever sold out and I think Murrayfield has a bigger capacity.

Or option C) Weeping to a man who's written some songs in a cabin.

Saw him do it in Belfast - sadly they made a bit of a fist of it bit it's the thought that counts.

The 1978 shows still getting pumped out as official bootlegs are all amongst the greatest live albums ever released. It's extraordinary.
-
Two sides to it, I think. It makes the gold circle cheaper in terms of £ outlay, but then the queuing up for days thing can hit people in the pocket in less direct ways.

Like him or not, Barry Gibb wasn't miming.

First Edinburgh gig since......the early 1980s I guess.
