  1. I was looking at a radiohead iceberg YouTube video yesterday. It actually rekindled some of my faded love for them. I think I'll give in rainbows a spin later. Magnificent album.
  2. This is a nice idea...I just can't look at it or do it because not seeing that blur set as an all timer is just wrong.
  3. Yes please! That would be a lush set of headliners. I feel we could get one but all 3 seems too big based on recent lineups. I'd love it though.
  4. Totally true, 99 also saw amazing albums by magnetic fields, flaming lips, wilco, sleeter kinney, pavement and that's just indie rock, before you get into pop, rap, electronic music you can bet if you went to those gigs it was a different vibe. This documentary is just focused on one specific troublesome element. I'm sure if you watched something about a standard British townie club area in the 90s ( and after) there would be loads of really vile behaviour.
  5. I totally agree, there is loads of smaller bands which are "6 music" music, you just have to look a bit harder to find them. It's still a good lineup for that sort of alternative music. We probably were spoilt a bit in some of the lineups (I looked at the 2012 lineup and winced at some of the acts I missed.) 😀
  6. Yeah I think that is fair enough, I agree I think you do need critical acclaim as well or cultural cache.
  7. I've only seen the first episode so not got to the assaults yet. I think it is about the culture and the people there. Really can't point fingers at heavy music though because festivals which have heavy lineups happen every year without these issues and at the other end of the spectrum I've been at latitude in a year where there were 2 serious sexual assults. It will be a combination of things but essentially very bad guys doing terrible things.
  8. Yeah I agree, some just want to experience it the one time. Always seems harder to get tickets every year though. Weather was good this year, great sets covered on bbc. For all the people that can't afford it there will be more who still can and want to experience it for the first time.
  9. Wow, didn't know that. Couple of goombas. I hate kid rock.
  10. Glasto is such a high priority for me I would find a way to pay for the ticket... but it is so expensive now that people who might have been willing to give it a try a few years ago might not, or might not be able to get a group of people together who can all afford it. It will definitely have an impact next year with the people who can afford to go. I think there are already people spending money on credit cards for holidays this summer that they committed too post lock down before the cost of living increases which they are unlikely to be able to pay off.
  11. Yeah I'm not into Drake at all and tbh Why do you think post malone wouldn't? I'm only a casual fan so I don't know that much about him. I know he is no way as critically acclaimed as kendrick, kanye or Jay z but isn't he still well regarded by with big crossover hits?
  12. Yeah, there was a bit in this which was saying that late 90's was bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal and fight club was a really popular movie and all that played into the feeling of the time, implication was that that was a factor... but if you get a load of young people onto a military base, don't have adequate facilities, rip them off, and then get them hyped up there are likely to be issues.
  13. The original with the sausage 🙂 in fairness it's the better version but not all bloody night.
  14. Reading campsites always were pretty gross, I was there 05 - 09 and then a day in 11 and my wife vowed we would never camp there again in 09 after...a.) kids playing what they called "dangercan" outside our tent, which was basically throwing an aerosol on a fire and jumping over it until it exploded. B.) Someone so wasted that they shit into their own hand and then wiped it on a fence. C.) Finding a poo covered by a crisp packet inches from the front of our tent. D.) Someone playing a cassette where the only song was the theme from Grange Hill on repeat all through the night. It might sound hilarious but the joke wore very thin.
  15. If you watch all gas no brakes or channel 5 on youtube they do several episodes which are 4 July celebrations on a beach or talladega stuff like that. It really is a weird culture.
  16. Ah I didn't know there was another doc. I will watch that as well if it is still on Now TV.
  17. 3 part Netflix documentary about the Woodstock '99 festival. Just watched the first episode. Interesting to see what happens when you try and run a festival with really only the intention of making money. It was also interesting comparing the 99 Woodstock lineup to the glasto lineup. Not that much crossover but a few bands that played both that year like Bush, Hole, Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. I think as the festival goes on the doc will get heavier, from memory it was carnage on day 3. The Pay per view tv footage is pretty gross as well. I remember a bit about it at the time but jeez it looks bad.
  18. Few more for the first timers that I don't think have been mentioned. - Drake - Post Malone - The Weeknd Returners - Foo Fighters - Stormzy - Ed Sheeran
  19. I've been reflecting on the shift from latitude from a "6 music festival to a R1 /R2 festival". I totally get it because on the obelisk it is a lot less alternative (dare I say interesting, with a few stand out examples such as little simz. It has been a gradual slide over the last 3 years. I wonder how successful the approach is? I know its not popular with people on here but is it attracting lots of other people? I don't think it sold out this year, last year did but it was the only show in town. Interesting to see what route they go down next year.
  20. I'm always amazed pixies haven't played. In the early years they would have been a really obvious Latitude headliner. Saw YYY's at latitude in 2013. They are so good live.
  21. I agree with you that pj Harvey would have been a shoe in for the original latitudes but sadly don't think they have had a main stage headliner like that for ages. Could be bbc sounds headliner but she is too big/ exclusive for that really. Would be really hard to place her at latitude... which is a shame because she is incredible live.
  22. I don't really know much about The Script and was surprised that they consistently play arena gigs. They played Newmarket races a couple of weeks ago which I don't think sold out... but yeah that's 22k capacity when sold out.
  23. I would love it to be pulp after today's announcement. I think they are the right size and would go down really well. I bet they do hyde park or something though. They have to be on the list of possibles though.
  24. My wife and I stood next to Jo Whiley and her family/ friends for Self Esteem. Seemed pretty chill, was dancing and singing along. Didn't want to bother her but I think she was talking to people after self esteem finished.
