    There are other gigs though.

And somehow the show in France is a fraction of the price.

If this gig sells out then it's grossing over £9m alone in ticket revenue, without taking into account merchandising, concessions etc. How much money does an act need to make a few hours work worthwhile?

Don't have to be 'poor' to not be able to afford £250 for a gig. Surely economies of scale means doing one performance in front of 90,000 should mean more affordable prices? I earn around the average national salary and used to be able to afford numerous gigs like this all the time. Now the prices are extortionate. Point is that just because you can rinse people for as much money as possible, doesn't mean you should. The attitude that it's ok because some people can afford it isn't really on. Same way I think the energy corporations should just suck up the increased costs in the current crisis, is it too much to ask that bands who are multimillionaires maybe take the burden of increased costs and make a few less £100,000s from their tours? Why should ordinary folk be passed on every cost incurred? The fact a ticket to see Blur and a host of other acts in €65 for the day in France shows this is nothing more than a cash grab.

Priced ok for those that can afford it, ie middle classes and above with money to burn, despite a cost of living crisis. Used to be that gigs, football etc were priced to be affordable for everyone. Instead it's just a money grab by commercial entities who already have more money than they know what to do with.

The bootlicking is amazing to see
  7. Worst booking the festival could make. Absolute tosh.

It still goes to the cost in my opinion. For me going it would be well over £200 for the day in terms of travel, ticket, food and drink. And I can get the train there and back in a day. God knows how much it would cost for people needing accommodation. On the Magic Whip tour pretty sure they only did IOW and Hyde Park other than warm ups. And Hyde Park sold atrociously, needing deals and freebies to get close to filling it up. Is there any more demand there this time round?

Because again there's nothing better than making your fans fork out for travel and hotels in the most expensive city on the continent rather than touring and making things more accessible. Make as much money from folk as you can for the least amount of effort.

Yes but really what should happen is costs are passed onto fans, pricing a large % of them out, just to keep the profit margin the same.

Putting on a stadium show for less than £100 on average per ticket is impossible, which is why Sam Fender is doing exactly that for 40% of the price.

Assuming these people are more than happy with the energy firms making billions hand over fist whilst paying sky high prices to keep themselves warm this winter
  13. Saw em at Beni in 2015 and they got someone on stage who clearly didn't have a scooby and it was a car crash
  14. Nope cos the West Holts headline fee will be a fraction of what Cambridge Club is going to be paying her for a headline set.
  15. Especially compared to the extra costs a festival has to incur in building the infrastructure, running numerous stages, camping, paying 10 x the amount of acts to perform etc.
  16. From a complete layman's perspective, surely it costs considerably more to logistically organise a festival than it does to just hire Wembley for the day? Yet festivals per day are charging considerably less than £100 per day for a full schedule of music. Download is massively expensive this year yet still considerably less than £100 a day of music and yet their costs must be much higher having to build the facilities for camping etc as well as having 10 x the amount of acts per day. The fact Sam Fender can do a stadium gig for 50% the price of other acts and still presumably make it a big earner shows that it comes to greed with other acts.

The defence of it and the money grabbing from acts has been the most Tory thing I've seen on Efests I think.

And therein lies the entire problem. Because those that can afford to pay massively inflated prices can and will continue to do so, gigs become something exclusive to the upper classes. As long as people are happy to keep getting fleeced then no action can be taken.

Because Pulp tickets were a fair and reasonable price, which is literally the entire point people are making.

Really can't see Blur doing a second date at Wembley. Didn't sell out Hyde Park without £5 tickets, think even then they struggled. With those prices could see them struggling even more.

    Blur

Point being there was no golden circle, tickets priced reasonably (even without fees) and the revenue would be split between 3 headline acts. Blur only have 4 members, granted there's support acts to pay a fee too but not the same as 3 x headline acts sharing revenue, costs etc. Green Day etc could have charged more, especially given the revenue being split three ways, but didn't. Blur could have charged a lot less and still have a huge payday, but instead have tried to fleece fans for as much money as possible.

The ridiculous fees also need to be canned, there's now less admin and costs to send out tickets yet everyone gets rinsed with fees 5x what they used to be. Ultimately who is trying to make a stand? The artists are the ones best placed to put a stop to this for the sake of their fans, but instead the vast majority seem to want in on the fleecing.
