  3. And it’s fantastic we have you here to gatekeep and shut down anyone who passes on anything. It’s really you that makes the forum a lovely and welcoming place and much better with you here. Keep at it mate!

  4. We are no longer in the 80's though. The new Pet Shop Boys album does not sound very 80's to me. Its not exactly drenched in FM synths and gated reverb snares. I find the whole relevance thing interesting. who decides what is relevant and what is not? Surely if a band is selling enough records to make it to no 1, selling out arenas, headlining festivals and getting a prominent spot at the UKs major festival, then surely they are relevant? The 80's, arguably the most diverse and ground breaking decade for music we have ever had in this country and there are people who think it was shit? As a music fan, even if a particular style of music was not your thing in the 80's, you must have surely been excited by what was happening?

  7. 1998, torrential rain, a leaky tent and no wellies. The last photo was Tony Bennett on the main stage.

  8. Today is quite a special day. My youngest daughter is about to have baby boy and when I get home from work I have Priority with Oxfam. Looking at Download, Glastonbury (I've not volunteered there since 2005) , Boomtown and Shambala. I will have to pay £285 deposit now which covers ALL those festivals and gurantees my camper van gets on site. In about October I get my deposit back because I'm very dependable. I could, of course add more but that would lead to divorce which is stressful and expensive. It's a great option folks and always worth consideration.

  9. PREDICTION GAME RESULTS By my calculations, the joint winners are: - Me (lol) and @Callum_96 with 7 correct guesses In joint 3rd place are @benali and @Cottsy with 4 correct guesses. In joint 5th place are @Tatterdemalion, The Wonder Why, @SweepingTheNation, @dentalplan and Muddy Holly with 3 correct guesses. In joint 8th place are @NCruz, @rug568 and @Happyboypricey with 2 correct guesses. In joint 11th place are @JHad and @zzzfest with a solitary correct guess. In last place (sorry) is @retromoz with no correct guesses. If anyone disputes these results, feel free to let me know. There is a whole excel spreadsheet behind this so I’m hoping this is all correct!! Interestingly the most predicted act - Fontaines DC - was not announced. They were predicted by 8 different people.

  10. Football league teams play 8 more league games a season, play group stages in what ever the ldv trophy is called now and play lower rounds of both other cups. Pretty sure some of these big clubs would rather all the smaller teams to just not bother existing so they can get on with the important stuff.

  11. It’s been a good day. On with Oxfam at Bearded, Womad, Boomtown and Shambala. Got tickets for the big G. A great summer is in the offing 😊 very best of luck to those having a go next week. If you approach it as ticket day you will be sorted. hopefully see some of you guys in a field somewhere...

  12. Green Man Festival 2020 Playlist. This is still a work in progress. The idea is I include my three favourite songs of each act. It's ordered in terms of my personal preference but I've also tried to make sure each artist is quite varied from the last one so that if you're listening in order it stays quite varied musically. If there's only one song, then it's because I haven't found three I like yet (unless they only have one or two songs on spotify, which is the case for a few!). I'll keep updating it as I listen to more of the acts and as more are announced.

  13. Can’t see this being true but apparently The Fratellis are playing 7 sets across the weekend and headlining both main stages, 5 of the sets are going to just be an hour long version of ‘Chelsea Dagger’ be surprised if it happened tbh

  15. Woop! I’m all sorted for Glastonbury and Trailwalker (local to me) stewarding so this is a beautiful thing! ideally i’d get the early shifts and be down the Saturday before, but I’m aware that’s pretty unlikely - I’m more than happy with Monday morning first thing. Can’t wait. If anyone fancies a tea/pint and a wander onsite on the Mon or Tues then let me know 👍🏻

  23. Basic level marketing is not a theory. Also running a business is not a theory. You still don’t understand my point. You think I’m trying to criticise the fact that liam gallagher can sell a lot of tickets. Two festivals ran by the same company don’t typically share headliners because they don’t want to jeopardise the ticket sales of the other. Also if people wouldn’t go to a festival to see one act what’s the point in booking headliners? You book headliners as they are technically a deal breaker on whether you pay £200 or not? my theory that Liam Gallagher was not originally intended to headline both is not far fetched at all when you take this into account.

  24. Anyway, all rumours related to festivals must be taken with a grain of salt. Things change from one day to another and not even the best source can give certain info about any band. I also heard the 'MCR not headlining in Europe' from a reliable source but in the end things haven't worked out. I don't know why. Anyway if you don't believe it you can see it for yourself as we had a Strokes leak here two months ago, now they are not in the line up after their tour announcement but nobody wants to assure that they will not play in this festival.

  25. December, I don't know the extent of any other dates, but certainly have reason to think they'll be in Glasgow

  26. I get you are irritated but no point in pointing the finger. Loads of info came out since Matt dropped the MCR info. Things happen and unfortunately are subject to change. I think the forum is a much better place when people pass on what they hear in the first place even if it turns out false.

  27. For the first year in a decade we are doing neither GM or EOTR. Very underwhelmed with both. A lot of the same old, perfectly fine , but *not again* names....looking at you Parquet Courts 😃 I just think the festival circuit in general is looking tired and weak this year .They all seem to be struggling for upper tier names. You only have to look at the reactions to the first announcements. I can't remember seeing so many <shrugged shoulders>

  29. We're taking four fifteen-year-old girls with us to Sziget this year. If Gaga is announced, you'll probably hear their screams in Scotland.

  30. 😂 it's just speculation like everyone else is doing, you aren't in the know. This has also been said in this thread about 20 times already. No-one really knows atm re The Strokes, they might still be in negotiations who knows. You also assured us MCR were playing Coachella and MC but not headlining either a few weeks ago lol.

  31. I think some need to realise MCR have no relationship at all with Glastonbury. None of the band members have gone to the place on solo projects or anything. I really don’t know why people are even mooting the possibility that a band selling three huge dates in the UK would play a below headline slot at Glastonbury. Especially in the same year they cancelled Coachella due to disagreement with their slot.

  35. There are definitely people who care about Eminem's new music. People thought he was done after The Eminem Show which was 2002 ffs, but look at Recovery in 2011; the best selling rap album of the decade. I know that was nine years ago but he's still more relevant than most of the generic shite US rap produces

  38. Yeah, heavy's a good umbrella word - prog metal, doom metal, experimental, math, post-rock, the weirder/heavier side of punk and emo, that kind of thing. Though there's a couple of bands playing this year that have done EOTR in the past.

  39. Victorious is scheduled for 11th Feb announcement dude. Unless its been brought forward in which case it would be Tuesday or Weds next week, but pretty sure its still the 11th. Will 100% NOT be this week.

  44. So after noticing that Lost Village had recently followed Bombay Bicycle Club (one of my favourite bands) i decided to google 'Lost Village Bombay Bicycle Club' and then came to this page https://lostvillagefestival.com/line_up/headliner/ . On there, under the title 'Headliner Archives', are the names Bonobo and Bombay Bicycle Club. You can then click on their names and then at the bottom it allows you to navigate through a list of bands - Bonobo, Bombay, Sink Ya Teeth etc. Pretty big coup for our group landing Bombay if this is true!

  45. People stopped buying CDs post 2011. Sales is no measure at all to relevance, indeed, selling CDs etc...is a sign you're past it as much as anything. That said, I'll admit he is obviously still a bigdraw and far more relevant than many acts born in that period. The Courteeners however are not though, they have less monthly Spotify listeners today than Wolf Alice, a band who have not released a record in 18 months. And 33% less followers. Courteeners are not really even big enough to sub, yet alone co-head...

  47. Can't say but apparently it's getting announced tomorrow and it's a smaller tour than the one in September. Guessing they'll be at Slam Dunk because there is no Leeds date and there is also that Slam Dunk announcement tomorrow
