Campervan / Motorhome Hire

McCor

Recommended Posts

I am considering the option of hiring a motorhome for 2016.

Can someone recommend who to use? Also, how far away is the camping area from the site, and what facilities are there? I want my partner to come next year, but she needs some convincing so want to propose the most comfortable options :)

Can't recommend a hire company, as we have used the same company the last two times and they are booked up for 2016 already - but I would try to book something provisionally sooner rather than later - you wouldn't believe how many companies sell out of hires a year in advance!!

With regard to the the distance from the site, I can only comment on East Camper field as this is where we have camped, but it also depends on the field within the area....for example we were in E20 this year, E 22 last year - both of which are a 5 mins walk from Ped Gate C which takes you straight into the Theatre and Circle field :)

Facilities in the fields include portaloos, which in my experience were kept really clean this year.  There are queues for these at peak times but on the whole they are fine :)

There are also sinks and water taps - again queues for these at peak times but never waited longer than ten minutes this year for these or the loo!

They also have waste water tanks in some of the fields, in case you hire a van with a loo.

With regard to food etc, there were a slush stand, a burger van, a coffee and cake van and a bakers van at the top of the hill this year - we cooked or ate in the festival mainly so not sure how all of them were price wise etc but there were queues in the morning and later on at night (after the headliners) as you would expect.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers

As above really, but in East you'd be at most half an hour amble to gate c. Treat it as a base and use on site lockups for chairs and booze etc, as I don't recommend going back during the day as it takes time away from your day. The big selling point for you is hot water and showers each morning, to sell as an idea to your partner. Don't bother with the field food, either cook your own or enjoy the great food onsite.

Same as above

We've used the same van hire place for the last 4 years, and booked already for next year. The company give deposits back if you don;t get tickets so no harm done. PM me if you want the name of the place etc. A bit more expensive but totally worth it, no added extras at the last moment and he's close enough that if you have a problem he will try to fix it somehow

Can I ask what size pitch you get? as our friends are wanting to come next year with small camper van but is it possible to pitch a 4 man tent next to them?

We are usually in dairy but would be nice to camp with our friends if possible

It depends on the size of the tent, generally I've found the stewards amenable once the vans have been parked up. Their main thing has been to maintain fire spaces between vehicles, so as long as your tent is small enough (ie avoid large porches and excessive family tents) you should be fine.

The stewards are fab in my experience - as long as you let them know you have an "awning" and they'll give you enough space for it or the tents.

We had 4 small tents next to ours this year and all was fine - as long as you don't block the paths.

Loos are very clean.

And it's pretty quiet at night.

    • When do we get stage times through? Also, how close are we to full lineups for the Lorde and Deftones dates?
    • I would assume that Sabrina will be their plan B if Madonna falls through.
