Gate A

This will be my first Glasto so forgive me if I'm asking questions with obvious answers.

I have a local base to the festival, just a couple of quick stops on the train, so I'd like to use that connection to get the first train to Castle Cary on the Wednesday morning, then a shuttle to the site. I'm aware that'll put me at Gate A as an entrance, and I suspect that particular gate might be really crowded given it's the one everyone who hasn't made their own way there will be queuing up at to get in.

So I've been studying the Google Earth Glasto map and I've identified either Oxylers or Lower Mead as fields I'd like to set up the old camping equipment. But they're not especially close to Gate A, so it'll involve a bit of a trek on the Wednesday morning.

So what's Gate A like as an entrance, given it'll also be my exit? Is it better to camp nearer? Is crossing the site to a field closer to other gates a silly thing to do?

Obviously it depends on how much gear you have to lug in, whether you are alone and whether you can do it in one trek.

Assuming you are alone but can do it in one trek, I wouldn't necessarily pick a spot near the entrance/exit. You'll be there for five nights so I'd pick a place to camp that will fit in with the places you are most likely to be spending time in at the festival and, most importantly, where you are likely to end up at the end of the night. Because you'll then have a trek back to your tent from that spot when you are tired, cold and knackered.

The site tends to divide into East and West musically (I appreciate that's a sweeping generalisation but stick with me). Look at the stages in the East and West and what's happening on those stages at the end of the evening and think about camping in an area close to where you'll end up.
