Volunteering?

Volunteering is great fun, I litterpicked for the first time last year and i won't go back to buying a ticket now. Go for a ticket on Sunday then also try and bag yourself a job. You can always let the ticket slide if you get one

Volunteering is great but I agree with glastoworker, I got a place with the recycling crew but had to get it all sorted, photos, deposit etc within 12 hours!

So if you find a chance to work grab it quick!

just to reinforce what we have both said .
Two on my team did not want places for Glastonbury 2013 as they thought they had tickets - its a long story - they were in Australia in a very remote area and had asked a friend in the UK to pay for the tickets but this friend let them down and the payment was not made - by the time the penny had dropped they got back to me but by then ' they were too late '
If they had asked for the places I would have made a higher bid but once that bid is made I cant change anything but there was a 95% chance that I would have got two places for them - they were still stuck in Australia but I sent them out four separate links that if they had acted straight away they could have got a voluntary place -
I even offered to make the application for them but they did say they ' would get on it right away ' but due to their Internet problems by the time they contacted whoever ' the places were gone '
I lost count at how many voluntary places I was able to find them ' but they never got their act together ' so they missed out.
They worked with me at Latitude and they do admit they were daft not to work out a place before diving away to Australia - they at least have learned by their mistake and they have requested glasto places for 2014 so they will not be bothering trying to buy tickets.
Its being in the the right place at the right time and being able to swing into action ' straight away '
So will you have priority next year with the recycling crew ?

Ahh now theres a question - twitter can be good but there will be loads of people on Sunday who dont get tickets so will sign up to work but dont complete shifts etc.

Find someone who has worked before and get them to back you

Hi

I worked on recycling for four years. The way it works is that they will always take workers who have worked before and got a good reputation. After all those workers have been approached, if there are spaces then they will be advertised but probably won't be until dec time as they have to process all applications.

Keep an eye on Glastonbury festival main page where there are jobs available.

If litter picking or working in recycling centre, it's not easy work. These are the jobs they will give you as you only get more privileged jobs once you have been working a while.

After I did litter picking we said we would never do it again as it is hard graft and you miss lots of the festival, and we managed to get on a gate team.

Cnd do the property lock ups. I have mates who do this. This is easy work but could involve you doing nights or in an area where nothing is happening, long shifts too.

There are lots of different people who recruit for Glastonbury, you have national charities you also have local charities. In the area I work a lot are small groups like local playgroups or football teams boy scouts , you have carnival clubs people like water aid really you have to do your own research to find them all.

One thing with these charities they make money by you doing the shift, and they need retention so they want people who do their shifts and come back to work every year if they don’t have enough retention they can lose their spot for the entire group.

I think the stewarding in my area makes £60-70,000 for charity, so its important that people do their shifts apart from the fact if you get a job your likely to be able to do it again

I worked recycling crew last year. Their registration opens for new recruits in January. Me and a friend emailed Fiona (email address is on the glasto site under volunteering) on the 1st January.

We heard back around late feb and had to confirm and pay the deposit by the end of March I think (can't remember).

From what I could see the festival itself was one the best to work for.

Good luck.

Try Festaff, (google it) I have worked for them a few years now. They took over the contract for the wrist-banding on the gates at this years Glasto for the first time. They give priority to folk who have worked for them before but there was allot of new folk there too. You can register for updates now on there webpage and applications open in Feb. If you are picked you are given about 2 weeks to pay the deposit (£200).
