the thing is, at the moment, I go to a festival because I want to have lots of bands to see, not for the 'experience' that glasto provides

have you been to glasto? I'm not saying you should aim not to watch a band, hell even on a weak saturday this year I only have 4 though now 5 and maybe 6 with Fatboy Slim and the Arcadia headliner.

no and I've just said why I wouldn't want to, I don't think the lineups music-wise are any better than other fests

My last glasto I saw 5 bands all weekend and none on the main stages, was up there with my faves fests of all time.

Pure perfection, was walking with a great smile all weekend and im a grumpy old bugger.

every glasto can be the best to yet fest you've ever done. so much to do, see and take part in it's so unique.

Saying that I can understand it being all about the bands for newbies and also not everyone wants the sub culture side of things.

The amount of stages make the lineup massively better.

If you say cut it down to the amount of stages that V have and then put the acts which Glasto has over the stages, well it would be better. And anyway I think it's the variety that makes it.

I also saw you and a few others discussing who should win the voice.......... I'm not suprised u prefer V

Since when has quantity been the same as quality?

Yeah I watch the Voice I don't see what that has to do with anything? and I'm not going to V, I'm going to R&L, I don't prefer V by a long shot, based on this year, I'd rather go Glasto than V, but I'd rather go R&L than both of those.. hence why I am

Errmm because it appeals to so many different people. Certain people go to V, certain to reading, etc.. Glasto appeals to pretty much every festival goer. IMO of course.

Fair enough didnt realise u were Reading and Not V. All about opinions of course. And I actually love Biffy over every band at Glasto, but wouldn't trade Glasto for any other

Yeah it appeals to many different people, but this year it doesn't appeal to me more than R&L, I'd love to see Nick Cave, Arctics, Vampire Weekend, Public Enemy and a few others but Biffy, NIN and SOAD really do it for me, and the lineup as a whole has a lot more bands I want to see

Ive been at my grans abit tonight so havent been able to see all the comments, so I will address things now :P

Yeah glasto only sells out because of the name and the hype. If glasto put tickets on sale, sold out then announced V's Line up on the main stages then it would still have sold out even with a 'bad' line up. Hence its all to do with what people expect from the festival and nothing at all down to the line up

I dont think we discussed who should win The Voice but it was mentioned, and I personally dont watch it but I heard about the winner and apparently someone else wasnt that good but shes in the charts now. I couldnt identify which person went with which name, guessing i would have a 50% chance of getting the names right as (just guessing here) there are two guys two girls.

Glasto does have loads of acts, and its been built up over many many years, and the size of the festival doesnt necessarily mean its better. If you go there and dont go see the acts, then you might as well just go to a fun fair or carnival instead, it would be alot cheaper. The idea of a music festival is to listen, thats why Glasto isnt just a music fest now, its all the contemporary arts which shows their main focus isnt just on the music. Glasto is worldly known to be the best festival in the world, but its reputation has taken away from the line up and people wouldnt care who was on, they would go anyway

Love Hurts, Love Chase and Status but I can't turn down my one chance to see The Stones, especially at Glasto.

For me, The Stones, Vaccines, TDCC, Editors, Jake Bugg are must sees. Add into that 1975, Vanpire Weekend, The View, god I could go on.

Plus then late night Friday down to Shangri La for Rudimental and some other Radio 1 stuff, And Saturday to Arcadia to watch Fatboy Slim and the special guests. Honestly can't wait

    • I've come across a few this weekend saying Deftones aren't big enough for Download.   I would recommend b&b hotel hbf the night before....cheap, comfortable and very decent. Within 10 minutes from the station and a tram stop outside to jump on...all travel is free during the festival time as well with a kombi. Lidl is very good and cheap I can't lie....€6 for a chair with carey handle, €20 with a bag too...you can work that out yourself.   If you camp, get up at 5am and go to the queue....literally don't question it as now I know.     The travel wise part is easy when you get the hang of it and I've never had an easier exit from a festival today tbh. We were camped in the turn left section but past the registration and to get water you have to come right out.   Opening up an exit through he camp at least by Friday morning when everyobe is there would be much better but you csnt walk through general if you're green and sonon.   I think the issue for me probably too is I have never taken like a mutliple litre water too, I've always done a 6 pack water from like poundland lol but you definitely need it. I had one shower that was cold lol   Talking of getting into the front, Volbeat was the only easy one, for Maiden and especially Linkin Park if you weren't in the queue for it by at least the last quarter ot Architects you had no hope....it was shocking. I do like orbit to sit down. I had to decide to sack off Within Temptation too or no chance.   Second stage biggest gripe is the faff of walking all the way round when VIP or whatever it is literally get access to each bit. I did read tbh before going people though RIP/Ring was turning too much the wrong way.   Also as a side note, caught some of Limp Bizkit last night too and they are not headliner but any distance at all. Yes they pull a crowd...they would do with LP finished but on the grand scale its a super weak booking. Stop, start for video recordings all the way through a headline set?, 1hr 15 minutes and you can't play for that time. I'm so glad they were not chosen to headline main.   On another thing, if RIP played it right they'll get GC and Avril to sub/second stage headline on the Blink day.   Toilets and cleanliness is a big plus I will say that.
    • Any of the likes of Keo, Basht. and Cardinals could all fit in here.  Although they’re the sort of bands that could fit many of the stages at Glastonbury
    • Glasto loves a come back act - how about the Rapture?
    • Yeah mentioned in the park thread but feel more Woodsies to me
