Taking a campervan for first time, questions

Hi

Just reserved a campervan for 2013. Normally I'm a tent purist but now I've moved to California the idea of flying home, digging out my tent and worse having to take it back to a friends after the festival all before an 11 hour flight is too much. 2013 then will be a bit of luxury.

I'm a bit concerned reading other threads, it sounds like there's a chance you may not be able to get a campervan parking ticket. Is this the case? Is there a limited supply? Any advice of ensuring you get one?

The other question is can you request which field you go to when you get a ticket? I see there's white entry and blue entry. I usually camp in or around Paines so what want to keep some of that tradtion (and avoid the hill of death!)

Any advice gratefully taken.

Counting down the days to Glasto 2013.

There are a huge number of campervan parking tickets available. For the last two Glastos we paid the balance of the festival tickets on the first possible day (though without rushing it) and got CvPT without any difficulty. You can choose to go to east or west campervan parks but when you get there you pretty much have to park up where you are told to. Both years we opted to go east (can't remember why). In 2010 we arrived after midnight on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. We ended up being about 20-25 minutes walk from Gate C. In 2011 we got there mid-afternoon on the Tuesday and were only about 10 minutes walk from the gate.

Hope that's of some help.

There are firms you can pre-order from but mixed reports. One problem will be how you then get onto the site. I don't know if you could go by train or car and then walk in with a CV Field ticket.

Absolutely anyone can enter the CV fields (on foot, anyway), so that's not a problem.

I guess if you're renting a CV that's already delivered to site, the rental company take care of the CV ticket side, since this year the CV tickets are part of the Festival ticket rather than a separate parking ticket.

I took mine, but with some thought of still camping, however ended up using the motorhome.

Only thing I had an issue with was glass - bizarelly you're allowed to take drinking glasses made out of glass in, but not glass bottles.

So had to empty out some alcohol in to plastic bottles and leave a bottole of champagne I had lying around* in their shipping container. Got it back ok at the end.

I was a bit further out than I really wanted last year, but that did mean that the site I was in was pretty quiet, which was nice as for once I got decent amounts of sleep at Glastonbury. Plan to park up somewhere just down the road for 2013 on the Monday night, which I had planned to do in 2011, but ended up staying at a Friend's place in Reading the night before.

*Lying around because I don't really drink it and keep it for a special occasion, not because it's a regular tipple.

In 2011we took one to West fields on the basis that is was a bit more sedate than East and smaller fields. It worked out superbly, arrived Tuesday pm and chilled out and Wed,Thurs for walking round site taking it all in. Only downside was its a fair walk from field to heart of site and going back to and forth is not really an option particularly if its muddy.

Doing same again for 2013

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
