Coachella - Weekend 2

okay, well...

you get a 22kg bag allowence when you fly so that should cover your tent and and your clothes for atleast a week. a good place to check prices is skyscanner.net keep in mind that some flights may look real cheap, but means there can be a 24 hr stop over at the airport, which would be ok on the way however on the way back, 4 days in a desert getting off your face. it may not be the the best trip home.

if there are two of you and sharing the tent you'll have more than enough bagge allowence to cover everything. also you can buy a cheap tent in america, and dump it at the festival site when your done.

Im staying in la for three days before the festival, im going to see madeon at the roxy theatre on the tuesday and justice and busy p on the wednesday then on the thursday we get a greyhound bus from la to indio which takes about 4 hours. it cost like $40 return which is pretty cheap.

Im also staying at STAY Los Angeles. Its a hostel in downtown La and its pretty decent, nicer than most hostels ive been to in europe. Think its $12 a night. Also from the airport to downtown, I would advise you to get a bus, it costs $2.50 one way takes an hour and its a bit clumbersome with your bags, but it costs $60 plus tip to get to the hotel.

Once you arrive at the greyhound station, I tend to get a lift from one of the locals. Its cool because they try and sell you drugs and usually drop you off for free!

If you want to go next year, you'll have to get the early bird tickets in june. i wouldnt risk waiting for the line up to drop. If daft punk release an album this year im defaintly going back.

if do decide to go you'll probably have one of the best festival experiences you can, except for glasto.

Hi,

We are going to Coachella Weekend 2, this is our plan:

Fly from Manchester on 14th April to LA(Changing at Chicago)

We are in LA until Thursday 19th April. While we are in LA we are hiring a small car and going to Santa Monica, Malibu, Huntington Beach etc. We are also going to see Miike Snow and Big Pink on the Tuesday and Wild Beasts on the Wednesday.

We pick up a bigger car on the Thursday at 2pm and then plan to drive across to Coachella. Hoping to arrive at Will Call about 4pm the onto the festival.

We are just going to get camping equipment in LA.

After the festival we are flying from Palm Springs on the Monday to San Francisco for 5 days. Planning to check out a few more gigs like M83, Real Estate and Tune Yards. We've also got tickets for Alcatraz.

We then fly home on Saturday 28th April!

Anyone who wants to hook up in LA, Coachella or San Fran drop me a message! It's gonna be awesome!!!!

Can't give any info on to and from the festival in Cali, but I will say to be prepared for the heat.

Coachella is in a desert. It could be perfect weather with warm to hot in the day and cool at night, or it could be stupid hot in the desert. When Rage against the machine played it got up to 110 F, It was 107 F when Bjork played and i don't think I have ever been that exhausted from being trapped in a not moving crowd. It was so bad that people were fainting from heat exhaustion and the only way out was to crowdsurf at Bjork.

Just keep water handy and a camelbak is a really good idea. It is just around the corner, not trying to scare you, but it can be really hot. Having shade at your campsite is an absolute must. A cheap EZ-up is worth the investment, something that you can put your tent underneath. You will be waking up in a sweaty mess before 10 am once the sun is up. We got a bunch of free gear leaving Coachella in 2007. I would rather have shade and ditch it than not have it.

When I went to Glastonbury in 2010 I pretty much brought everything needed to and from and just checked it in in London when i went traveling.

I hope they split the crowds better this year, I know it was crowded last year but it wasn't two weekends.

Either way you will have a blast. Have fun.

What does anyone do when it comes to a wash before home on the last night. I'm planning to start driving away early hours of the mornings as we can check the car back into the airport as early as 5/50:30am monday morning but obviously don't want to board an 11hours flight plus with out a good shower lol

After watching the highlights today, came on here to see what other people were thinking. Instead, it's just people planning out their trips to go and I've never been so jealous in all my life. It sounds absolutely amazing! Think it's a must next year. Enjoy!

I would rather feel secure though. It doesn't mean you will enjoy it know but people don't surely go, we're talking 150k onwards cause they don't? It sells out faster, very fast, they are doing something right. I'm not expecting it to be as good as Glasto, just the want to do an american festival that is not near a city etc or in one is there. But has to be right for the £400 + on a flght etc etc

I completely understand what you're saying, i'm just not sure it would warrant the money. If it's impossible to bring in soft drugs and alcohol into the camp site i don't think it would be that good.

Also considering the flights realistically have to be booked before the lineup is announced you have to be really sure you want to go.

Didn't go, but watched the webcasts. I assume they will be having them this weekend again. My favorites were St. Vincent, Radiohead, Justice, Miike Snow and Pulp. The Tupac hologram is nuts also. If you want to see that, its sunday night (monday your time I guess).

As far as alcohol goes, we brought some in 2007 to the campground, but it sounds like they are hardcore searching stuff lately. When I went in 2007, it was all about smoking, in Cali they have lots of green around. I only drank one beer all weekend in the beer garden since it was ridiculously hot like it will be this weekend.

If you want to drink, go to Bonnaroo. You can bring whatever you want to the campsite other than glass items. They do search your car for prohibited items going in and we got pulled out and searched by the police task force and were lucky that year. Bonnaroo sells beer inside the venue all over and it's not walled off like coachella. They have a good selection also, but corporate sponsors make you have to find the good beer locations sometimes. They have a whole craft brew tent also.

If you are interested in seeing some pictures, I have Bonnaroo 2007 2008 2009 2011, coachella 2007, sxsw 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012, and glastonbury 2010 photos along with all my other gigs. They aren't dslr quality, but it's like a documentary of the festivals. I finally purchased a dslr this week to up my game.

I really wish I could have gone to Coachella this year, but can't do everything. I am saving up vacation for Glastonbury next year or may hit up flow if I can't make glasto and visit my mom in Finland.

Coachella and Bonnaroo are both awesome. Coachella is way more hi tech in production and the art is way cooler. Bonnaroo is more farm style and the late night sets are one of my favorite things about it. Choose wisely.

Hi, to those that went for the UK, could you give me a rough idea of what the cost was i.e. what kind of budget you would recommend for 2013? There's 4 of us that want to go but we've got no idea what it might cost!

    • Do you think they'll release today's cupra pulse lineup?
    • I had a great time yesterday and came to the conclusion that everytime (or, more accurately, both times) I didn't have a great time at Primavera, it was water-related. Either there was too much of it (Thursday 2026) or there wasn't enough (Thursday 2022, week 1).
    • I sacrificed the first hour of the cure for Role model yesterday and oh man that was a good bet! That guy and his band are insanely good and an hour long only bangers!
