The eFestivals Glasto 2011 scorecard

Howdy gang

Following last year's festival I put together a survey using Google Docs that allowed people to rate all of the acts that they saw out of 10. I (with some help from my colleague Steve) analysed the scores and posted the scores on here:

/index.php?showtopic=150838&st=0&p=3368083&fromsearch=1&#entry3368083">Last year's results

I really enjoyed looking at the results it so I'm planning on repeating it this year.

My aim is to have the survey written before the festival this year so you'll be able to post your scores as soon as you get back.

The reason for this thread is to give people a heads up and to ask for any suggestions you have for a couple of general questions to include

I was thinking along the lines of:

- Favourite stage

- Rate the weather

- Rate the "atmosphere"

- Overall rating for the festival

I'm keen not to overload it with loads of additional questions but I figured we could learn some pretty interesting things to help the debates that will inevitably start on these boards after the festival.

Let me have your thoughts and suggestions

Also to say that the more scores we get the better. We managed to get 188 last year, which was a pretty decent effort, but I'd love to boost that a bit, so when the link for the survey is available please do share it with anyone you think might be interested in taking part.

NB: I appreciate that stats are not everyone's idea of fun and that a few of you might want to burn me at the stake for suggesting involving them in your Glasto experience. In fact, I might add a question to see exactly how many...

I thought it was all pretty interesting stuff last year Budvar.

I think the idea of rating stages is a good one but I'm not so sure on rating the overall festival. As for the weather... don't really know but I think most people would be of the same opinion whatever happens.

Just had a very quick look at the thread from last year - very interesting, so I'll try keep a note of what I see this year (maybe!). In case it was missed from the older thread:

Our gang have had a scoring out of 10 system for many years. At first we were unsure how you could compare stadium rock veterens like U2 with a young unknown playing acoustic on the bandstand. But then we agreed on our guidelines which are: "For what they are how well do they do it?"

This means that, for example, as stadium rockers U2 might get an 8 out of 10 and the young singer songwriter could get a 9.

We also start fairly low on the score card because one year we'd got bands getting 9 or 10 and then there were others that were way better and they were getting 11 and 12 out of ten.

We write the scores against the bands in our little Guardian Guide and it's a useful way when the festival is over of remembering back through the haze of who we really enjoyed. Sad but fun.

I was wondering if any kind of statistical analysis was used - probably has been mentioned on the other thread but like I said I only gave it a very quick look. I was thinking some uber-nerd could possibly do some sort of within subjects analysis so variations between how different individuals score are accounted for (e.g. person A and person B both score 10 bands. person A has all their scores between 4 and 7, person B has all theirs between 7 and 10, they've both effectively given the same spread of scores but person B has boosted the acts he's seen higher up the chart. Stats could be used so that A's 7 is counted as strongly as B's 10).

I'm not sure about the new questions either, if I think of any good ones I'll let you know.

I think I'll try recording my mark for each band on my clashfinder as I see them.

Maybe get people to rate each day they spend at the festival? (Tuesday to Monday)
