Aye I think I remember talking to someone with a welsh accent! I honestly can't remember half of who I met there. I can remember faces but next to no names! Were you standing beside me when we drank some of that home made booze?

Yeah, or it'll make her resent you for forcing her to do something she may have no naturally affinity for.

Using music as a tool for discipline is the most absurd thing I have seen on these boards for ages ... music is about the creativity, freedom and expression for f**ks sake!

I despair in ideas such as this ...

There are better links but I am surprised at the level of opposition...

Wendell Harrison, writing in the May 1983 issue of Vermont Music Educators Association News said:

Studies have been done for some time now on basic intelligence as it relates to playing a musical instrument. While once it was said that smart kids are in the band or orchestra, for some time now, neurologists have been finding that the kids are smart because they are in the band or orchestra. Recently a series of comprehensive skills tests was run on 5154 fifth graders in all the Albuquerque's 75 elementary schools ... and guess what? In every single test area kids who were learning to play an instrument and were participating in the school band or orchestra received higher marks than their classmates. Not only that, but the longer the school children had been in instrumental programs, the higher they scored!

I recently heard Dr. Frank Wilson, a well known neurologist, speak at a meeting of the American Music Conference in New York City. His feeling that increased intelligence is helped by a child playing a musical instrument is based on the fact that approximately 80 - 90% of the brain's motor control capabilities are devoted to the hands, mouth, and throat. ... He feels that by developing highly refined control in those areas, a child is stimulating almost the entire brain, thereby increasing its total capabilities.

Not sure that is true...

but I am talking about her early years here... Primary school to Secondary School... From Secondary School onwards she can start choosing what she wants to do a more... She will be in a informed position to do so at that stage :)

Oh my ...

I am aware of the effects music can have on children. I didn't realise that forcing someone to do something, your will, with the aim of teaching the values of discipline and commitment is a valued method.

I think your children should do English! That sentence does not read right at all!

Mathematics is a whole different matter.

Potatoes then ... you like Jazz and Rock, but do not like Rhythm and Blues??? I take it all back, someone in your family should learn about music. Start em young, thats what I say!

    • sub yes I could see but I don't think they get 1hr 15, a headliner starting at 18:15 though is unlikely. Even the recent co-headlines that have had like 1hr 15 then a 1hr 30 after were on 8pm or just before, you are trailing behind more than 1.5 hours then. In that scenario some 3rd down bands are only starting at 18:15 and some haven't lol. I agree they won't not book them due to this but it won't be 6 headliners. It would be 5 headliners and you wouldn't want to see 5 headliners booked but Biffy were to not be thouhgt of as an option for one. Wolf Alice on the other hand could sub no bother and you'd think nothing of it. I'm not so sure Biffy would get headline though after the festival choice in Kendal this year.
    • Definitely. UKIP also used Merkel welcoming 1 million Afgans to Europe in 2015 during the brexit vote.   Politicians in other countries within the EU know the are going to lose voters to parties to the right of them over stuff like this and they've no control over it.
    • I think it will very much vary on who there is to book who they know will sell out a day.    They’ve co-headline and full headline stuff in future, there no reason at all they won’t do it again, even if it means cutting someone’s set by 15 mins or having a band less in a big bands day…   They’re not going to not book Foo fighters and instead get the equivalent of Florence and C&S just to not have a band do a big set…   …unless of course they think it will make them more money…
    • Maybe some right wing leaders like Meloni are just playing to their base, like Reform have been here talking about them ending up at Calais.
    • Citizenship via investment programs basically work by saying if you invest this much in our economy (say buy a property worth x) then we will either grant you citizenship or residency with a route to it. The EU has rules on how low countries can set the bar. Montenegro was one of the easier ones to get and they've had to tighten it up.
