My first EOTR

Hi.

This will be my first EOTR and I'm a fairly nervous traveller (though I survived Glastonbury last weekend).

I have a few questions.

1: Will I be allowed to take my box of wine into the arena?

2: Is the camping crowded (like at Glasto) or is there space to swing something of a similar size to a cat?

3: Is it as chilled as it looks in the pictures?

4: I found Latitude a bit too dull the last time I went. You really feel like you're there to make them lots of money, it's full of people that love a chat during the music and there was none of the spontaneous goings-on that you get at Glastonbury. Will I find EOTR more to my taste?

Thanks for any assistance.

Hello,

Assuming everything is more or less the same as last year then yes you should be able to bring a box of wine into the arena. The only rule is no glass (and you have to share it with me;)

Camping is much more civilised than glastonbury. It's fairly easy to find a decent space. I was surprised how hard it was to find a space at glasto and that was arriving on the wednesday. Far too hectic for my liking.

Finally, although EOTR lacks a lot of the utter randomness of Glasto it certainly doesn't feel like you're there to make them rich. It is completely sponsor free and has an overall nice feel to it.

The one thing I would probably change about it would be to have stuff going on until long into the early hours of the morning. There are djs until about 2 I think but that's a little too early for me!

Anyway, have a great time,

Matt.

Yeah, it's very relaxed and there's plenty of space (especially if you move a bit further away from the arena - and I mean "a bit" it's not like Glastonbury where you have to camp 30m walk up a hill in order to get some space).

There's some talking during the bands, especially earlier on and especially if you're near the back of the Garden Stage - if you really want to see/hear someone, especially someone quiet, I'd suggest getting right down the front.

Not incredibly spontaneous, although the paino stage in the woods is a chance to see random bands play unplugged.

Heya,

Without wishing to sound farrrrrr too eulogistic, EotR is, by far, the best festival in the world :) and I hope you will love it. On to your Qs:

1 Yep - as MattL80 says, just no glass

2 Nope, and yeah I think you could even hazard swinging a fairly decent sized peacock

3 Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh, many many Good People and a very relaxed and happy vibe to the whole thing

4 Hope you will, it's not at all like Latsh*tude - none of that 'Posh Pizza' flogging Goodfellas tripe for a tenner lark!

EotR truly feels like the labour of love that it is for Sofia, Simon & the rest of the crew. As Infinite Jest says, get yourself off into the 'woods' late at night for a few impromptu shows around the piano and occasional gatherings in the secret library.

Hope you enjoy!

Agreed :)B)

Very chilled, friendly, not busy, cool bands who are happy to wander around and chat to people, the Piano Stage off the beaten track for unplugged sets, gorgeous woods to stroll through with quirky things to see, just bliss :)

Matt...I suggest if you get up at 7am and cook us breakfast, then 2am will seem very late!

  • 1 month later...

Does anyone know if the Tangerine field option is the added juice one with the cleaner loos and all that malarkey?

My wife seems to think there may be a hair styling tent? She doesn't do camping very well..

Yes, the loos are individually hireable for the duration of the festival (£23+vat last year, I think) and you will be notified (if you choose this option)of your preset lock code number combination. Except in inclement weather, stewards will hourly attend with a choice of pine, aqua or avocado air fresheners. I don't recollect any hair stylists in attendance last year, but maybe check Healing Fields? Hope this helped."

RedRockRick - nearly right mate, but don't the stewards also bring the loo to your tent if it rains a lot? Oh and tea and toast in the mornings. It may sound a lot on top of the ticket price but its important to maintain standards.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
