Glastonbury Food

This year I'm doing the fest on a relatively tight budget and was wondering if people had suggestions as to what food to bring. I won't be bringing a stove/kettle/grill/whatever and just need food I can take in my backpack and eat with no preparation. Beyond hula hoops what options do I have?

Cakes, biscuits, sweets, apples, oranges, sliced bread and cheese slices (they don't last long), squeezy honey, peanut butter

But for £7 a day you can have at least one huge and decent meal, just shop around. Maybe even less. Plus can work for an hour at some of the 'hippy' type places and get free food.

Protein shakes (seriously, the powdered ones weigh nothing, but are packed with protein (which you will need after slogging around and dancing.

Also tinned tuna/bean salads/tinned meat.

Enjoy!

Pasties and sausage rolls....but only for the first couple of days (not good after sitting in a hot tent for any longer)

Or, if you want veggie stuff, cheese and onion slices, onion bhajis and veg pakoras.

This year I'm thinking of taking crumpets and butter and making use of the campfires :)

I always bring a load of food which then sits rotting in my tent.

This year:

Box of cereal bars for first thing

Multipack of crisps for evening

Buying everything else there, which is what I'll end up doing anyway so no point bring extra stuff with me.

Cereal bars and peanuts are a lifesaver. They store very well and are pretty good for energy. Cakes can be good, but be careful getting anything too soft (bound to be crushed) or anything that's likely to go stale after a day or two. Flapjacks are usually pretty good.

For veg, Carrots are the best festival food IMO. Very difficult to bruise and chances are you'll be eatting loads of processed food, so something with a nice crunch to it is a change. Dried fruit are ace, especially apricots, raisins and apples.

no-one should ever forget the Hare Krishna tent - free vegan food by the bucketful. always tasty curries and hard to complain about the price. the last couple of years there's been a tent on the path between other stage and park.

I'm also rather skint this year, but will be working for oxfam so get 5 free meals i think which should ease the strain on the wallet a bit.

I've taken a few pot noodles, 2 packs of cereal bars, some oreos, jaffa cakes and some capri sun. I will be looking to get some pop tarts on board too.

All of the above came to less than a tenner in the supermarket and should make sure im not too hungry in the mornings or afternoons.

I like the idea of taking bread and some cheese though. Also why not take a bowl and a box of cereal? you can then just buy a pint of milk each day and that should see you good until mid afternoon at least.

Ive not worked glasto but have worked as Oxfam Steward at other festivals in the past and have found that meal times are sometimes a bit strange and dont always fit shifts - so I'd always advise going for breakfast with your meal ticket - you might want to be doing stuff by dinner without going all the way back to staff camping. Also - depending what time you get there you can end up with hardly anything left! At least with breakfast you know what to expect and it fills you up for quite a while!

However, Glasto is a bigger opperation - so maybe meal times are longer/more constant and you don't end up with "snacks" so much?

    • Crikey.   I remember Muse cancelling a Lolla headline set in 2017 due to a massive thunderstorm after only 3 songs. Clearly this is an area of the world where the storms don't f**k around.
    • I still think they might take another shot at the normal weekend.    I'm also pretty sure this exact same speculation was happening after the last one.
    • Meanwhile in Chicago. Rained overnight at Lolla. Now they pushed back opening til the afternoon. But thunderstorms and lightning forecast. Maybe if the city invested in proper drainage they couldve tried to salvage the day.
    • Wasn't just me who thought it was either oversold or inadequately setup for the event then? For Pride, over the weekend, where there's also acts in the large blue marquee that was to the right of the "arena" (for want of a better term), it's probably much better as people are dispersed more. Thought the band were great, as was Nick, though he was clearly struggling with his voice at times.
    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
