Anyone else buzzing for the football? Love the world cup, watched Englands first game at home and enjoyed it, so can not wait to experience the Glasto footie atmosphere!

Out of interest, when was the last England footie match to be shown? Anyone there? thoughts?

It was England V Portugal in Euro 2004, which we lost on penalties (Darius Vassell missed the key one if I remember right)

2006, the year of the world cup, was a fallow year at Glastonbury after the great flood and we didn't qualify for Euro 2008.

The atmosphere was great, but understandably downbeat after the final whistle.

I hope the screen is clearer to see in the light than the last time I saw a game there. Think the other one I saw was a final but i can't remember which year, with the sun it wasn't very clear.

I was thinking it was going to be alright cos game at 7:30 but now i've seen this i realise it's on at 3!

Was mint in 2004 for the footie - remember the BBC showing the Glasto crowd at half time and the whole place going bananas. We were on the hill looking down at the big screens and by the end of extra time I was trashed - I remember Sol Campbell scoring and not realising it had been disallowed. Dont remember much after that, think I woke up the next morning and had to ask my mates who had won as I genuinely had no idea :)

Seriously cant wait for this!

I have always wanted to watch a major England international at a festival for the atmosphere and im finally gonna get to do it next Wednesday :)

Although it only takes 2 and a half hours to get there we're setting off at 5:30am to ensure we beat any nightmare traffic etc for the game (fingers crossed!)

Seeing the Portugal match at Gloasto is something I'll always cherish, I dare say it was almost worth seeing England go out again to witness that atmosphere. I watched a group stage match at Download two years later and it just wasn't the same.

2004 was great. Thursday evening - I think Edith Bowman introduced the match before it came on the big screen. There were more people at the pyramid stage than there were in the stadium.

I also remember people trying to make their way to the toilets just before half time and took half an hour to get back.

Really looking forward to Wednesday afternoon.

I don't recall it being downbeat at all. One of the best things about it was that (while many town centres in Britain were riot zones) everyone at Glastonbury went "Oh well, let's party".

I'm told the BBC showed an interview with some Glastonbury punters during their post-match coverage, and the lads pretty much said exactly that. "Yeah, it's a shame innit, but we're at Glastonbury so it doesn't matter."

I remember the last time, being gutted about our defeat for about 5 minutes... and then completely forgetting about it after that. You're in the best place in the world to help you get over something like world cup heartache!

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
