Brewing your own cider

I was having a look at some of those 'brew your own pear cider' kits on ebay and thinking I could buy one, make a load of ciders then bring them to glasto. Has anyone tried this before? I'm worried that it could taste like sh1te and leave me with loads of equipment I have no use for, also, does the process attract flies or anything like that?

Cider is so easy to brew, buy a demi john steralise it, fill with apple or pear juice, add some yeast, a week later bottle it with a shot of apple juice in each bottle so that it can ferment further making it fizzy. Its drinkable a week after that :P

Go to the jimsbeerkit forum and check the cider section for more info

For last years festival I brew two different types of ale,

geordie_mild.jpg

They were absolutly delightful, they are so strong tho. I had one glass and my face went numb! I also give my mate a bottle as he ran out of drink and he polished of a 2 litre bottle and lost him, when we found him he was in the avalon cafe bouncing to some bangra band!

I made them using this:

You can get them from most Wilkinsons for £23 quid but they are bit more pricey on ebay! Im gonna make some cider for this year but I need to pull my finger out because the long its left the nicer it tastes!

Loving the "turbo cider" that is very tempting I think that will make your teeth hurt, get the job done though I reckon.

For the price of some apple juice yeast a demijohn and sugar, bingo: 5 litres of rocket fuel what is there not to like?

I for one am IN :P:P:P

I used to make all sorts at uni using similar equipment as above. Cider isn't too bad to make if you are patient enough and make sure you get a good kit/ ingredients. At the end of the day you can always top it up with a sweet apple juice to take the acid taste away or even some traditional cider on top if it doesn't taste strong enough.

We made our own vodka a couple of times and I swear I haven't been the same since. It was officially the most dangerous, disgusting drink i have ever tried in my life.

Keep away from the Vodka kits!!

By the way, albeit not a common occurance, home brewery kits can easily explode and are actually quite dangerous when CO2 is not released properly. Can get messy and if you don't sterilize everything correctly it will end up tasting like a sloppy vinegar instead of cider.

I would invest my money in shop cider or make sure that I got practicing brewing well in advance of glasto cos the last thing you want is to be stuck with gallons of sickly drink that smells....
