The main gripe with this early leak

Firstly, this is a fairly strong suite of acts. Certainly nothing to be scoffed at. But the early problem - and as a disclaimer, I understand this is an early draft of an exceptionally dense and varied line-up yet to be filled out - is that the line-up lacks the originality that 2009 seemed to bring back (in comparison, at least, to a 2008 line-up fleshed out in the upper echelons by the likes of The Fratellis, The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls, One Night Only, The Feeling etc). Oh, and my gripe in no way extends to West Holts as that is a stonking stage, through and through.

Aesthetically this set of acts, small though it may be, underwhelms for one primary reason: as an undercard to a f-cking solid headlining trio, it just seems too similar to many other line-ups being bandied around this summer: Dizzee Rascal, Jamie T, The Cribs, Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem, Florence & the Machine, La Roux etc are all playing a lot of festivals. And fair enough: they're popular acts at the moment. But Dizzee second-headlining? Really? One year after playing 4th from top? Seems a tad too much like overkill (considering he's whoring himself round everywhere else too). VW third-from-top? Too high surely? Scissor Sisters and Faithless both second-headlining? Yeah they're big acts but their respective stars have waned quite a bit and IMO they'd be better in Other Stage headline slots.

Yeah, there's pleasing musical diversity in there - Snoop especially is an inspired choice - and some top sucker punches (Hot Chip > Flaming Lips especially; MGMT > LCD Soundsystem > Orbital too) but right now that magic seems to be lacking. Indeed - putting aside subjectivity about the quality of the overall line-up - but Reading by way of comparison have pulled the likes of Weezer, Arcade Fire, Guns 'N Roses, The Libertines, Cypress Hill, Queens Of The Stone Age out the bag; hardly acts widely replicated across the festival circuit this year.

Following last year was always going to be tough, and the full line-up will no doubt be brilliant (as usual) - it just seems now that parts of this line-up appear to be more an amalgamated re-hash of other line-ups, past and present, and less the Spinal Tap into Dizzee into Crosby, Stills & Nash into Kasabian into Bruce Springsteen genre-hopping, convention-defying, old 'n new spliced mindboggle of brilliance that was 2009.

There is no indication that the bands will be in that order, or that they are the top 4 bands of the day, they could easily be spread out, with other bands in between. Apart from that, I hardly think we can accuse GFL of being boring. There is still a wide range of genres and styles in there, and they are barely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the entire lineup and range of entertainment that will be available.

So I think I'll just say hey, chill out, it's not over yet!

I agree with DD. I think the leaked acts are good but nothing special. I would like to see some really good acts being announced soon. And dizzee before U2 just wont really go

Is there a consensus that the leaked line-up is genuine then?

Is only a small proportion of the total acts anyway. That said, it looks promising.

This. For example, as much as I love Seasick Steve, I wouldn't consider him to be a third from close act on the Pyramid stage. Hopefully we've got some more awesome bands to come in and fill the already tasty line up.

As for the originality aspect - it was mentioned WAY before the first lot of tickets even sold that this year, being the 40'th anniversary would see the return of many older and more seasoned acts.

Its the anniversary, after all... Its all about celebrating the acts the have come before now and made glasto what it is today.
