Packing

I won't start the physical act of packing until the day before heading south (Tuesday 22nd), but have been thinking about it for weeks and weeks, making lots of mental notes about stuff that I didn't have last time or stuff that I took & didn't need. I have a place in the spare room where I put all the little bits and bobs that will eventually get packed, and every time I go in the room it makes me smile.

I've pitched the tent to check it's still fit for use, which it is.

... and I've started a pile of stuff in the spare room, plus I've embarked on my craft project for decorating the campsite.

My requirement is that I can carry everything in/hanging off my rucksack, plus tent held in one hand, and another bag in the other and not dragging on the ground. More stuff than that, means I have to leave something at home.

I have just done a 'Trial Pack' everything is looking good and its not too heavy either. still a few things i didn't pack like loo rolls and waterproofs (even though I wont be needing them :P ). Might order myself some compression sacks to squash the clothes down a bit.

What is peoples opinion on camping chairs, i have one but im not sure if i should take it. Is it worth it?

The excitment is really growing now :P

The plastic vacuum storage bags are good for squashing clothes down. Some recommend a vacuum cleaner host to suck the air out, but others you can just squeeze the air out by rolling it up and sitting on it. It has the added benefit of keeping your clothes dry if it's raining during the walk across site.

I take one of the small three-legged camp stools. Small enough to carry around site, and it's always great to be able to sit down (esp. if muddy)

Have been getting things together, buying what i need, making sure that everything is as light as possible and only what i actually need as i'm going alone this year so can not share the weight with anyone.

New tent is receiving a practice run, is in my garden at the moment :P

    • Lovely stuff to look back through on a rainy day, which in turn prompted me to look through my own. Some from 2024......
