NME headline rumours for maccabees

Many people seem to be posting their thoughts about how they think Maccabees will headline or even co headline the tent.

This does not make sense to me as they played fourth down the tent last year and have not released anything since it may seem a bit of a risk if they were given a headline slot as people would be relying on a good 3rd album in time for leeds.

I may be missing something about the band please tell me if their are so many rumours for the band headlining the tent.

although they did headline the nme tour, i still dont see them as headline material. im a massive fan, but they dont get as much media coverage as past headliners (the cribs, maximo park, bloc party) get i.e radio plays. i still see them as a popular band with more of a "cult" following rather than a mainstream band with white van drivers singing along to Love you better on radio 1.

if they play, it'll be 2nd or 3rd top under a bigger band. if they do headline, i'll be very surprised (and annoyed if it clashes with blink or arcade fire)

Funeral for a friend headlined it in 2004 and headlined the nme stage at R/L in 2004

Bloc Party played (but didn't headline as The Killers headlined) nme awards in 2005 - headlined R/L in 2005

Maximo Park the same in 2006 but they headlined the nme awards

Klaxons & The View (the same as maximo park but in 2007) - but I think there were 2 separate tours that year for the nme awards and they headlined each one.

The Cribs the same in 2008

Glasvegas the same in 2009 altho they co-headlined with Gossip & were on before them

The Maccabees will probably be a co-headliner with somebody and may be on before them

I thought they were damn good last year and the rumours about them playing this year started pretty much straight after last year's festival finished, so I guess the organisers were pretty pleased with them as well.

In 2005 it was the Killers, Bloc Party, Futureheads and Kaiser Chiefs. Not one band with more than one decent album.

None of these are a match for the Maccabees. No matter how popular they are. The Maccabees will kill this slot!

Great band who deserves their chance!
