Reading trying do a Blur with a band that if they came out in the last few years would be part of "the indie landfill rubbish" people hate on here? Don't get me wrong I like the libertines, they are just nothing special really.

The difference is The Libertines sparked off this. They were the originals, the ones who actually came out with it first and did it well and differently to everyone else who has since attempted it.

if it's really happening, then it's weird that there's remote and seemingly unconnected (to the band) sources that seem to know all about it, while every angle I try that should bring at least a hint only gets a blank.

While it's not impossible (tho very highly unusual) for things to get tied down that tightly, it doesn't explain how come those unconnected places have info.

Yes. They were the originals before the indie landfill rubbish that was referred to in the original post. I can see where you're coming from that they have been greatly influenced by previous musicians and writers but I was saying they were the ones the indie landfill scene is now based on.

The only thing original about The Libertines is that I can't think of any other band called The Libertines with members called Carl Barat and Pete Doherty.

Otherwise, nothing new whatsoever.

otherwise Menswear, Gene, Marion and Echobelly would be ranked as musical giants of our time

indie landfill comes, indie landfill goes, no one band can take 'credit' (if you know what i mean) for it, either now, or in previous decades

I cant read the whole thread but it ant going to happen as Pete will be inside for a long time after he is charged (I am sure will happen) as part of the death of Robyn Whitehead.. Link

Much appreciated Mr 2k! Gives me a bit more hope for a performance at Glasto. It is Peter's preferred fest and he says his biggest regret is not getting to play it with The Libertines. I can see him playing with 'Shambles, Carlos doing a solo and them both ending up on The Park or something.

Oh the scenester carnage if this was to happen. There'd be skinny jeans and posh kids dressed in quirky ways all over the show. And they'll be calling them "Peter" and "Carlos" as though they bloody know them.

Pete Doherty is just a smackhead rat. Like all happy addicts, he'd willingly do whatever it takes to get his fix regardless of the consequences.

I love The Libertines on record, but I couldn't be arsed with the clichéd, obvious, so-horrendously-"London*-NME"-music-scene performance and surrounding areas.

And if Peter and Carlos were as talented as they try to get people to believe, they would have been able to produce more than Clash b-sides together followed by "4 out of 10" albums apart.

*Not a jibe at London and Londoners, you just know the folk I mean.
