We rented a zafira last year, 7 of us, travelling from liverpool too, and we gota blowout about an hour into the journey which really set us back, it took us 18 hours to get to glasto and my mates left 3 hours after us and got there about 4hours before. it was hell

we're still driving this year, but make sure your car isn't overloaded and you check the tyre pressure is suitable for the amount you're carrying. the companies just fob you off and expect everything to be fine but the strain tha length of a journey puts on your car is unbelievable.

We drive purely for the convenience as we live 12 hours drive from Glastonbury and ye can get tae f*ck if I'm sitting on a bus for longer than that!

A possible wee issue with a hire car is if the festival experiences slightly/somewhat inclement weather...aka needing to pulled out of the mire by tractor driving locals who force you to 'cross their palms with silver' to get you out!

Make sure you have a high powered hose at home if there is mud to get removed or say bye bye to that deposit!

i reckon you could buy a car for £100, pay the insurance, drive it there and home and cancel the insurance (within the 14 day cool off period given by all insurers) and then either scrap the car recouping some funds or keep it or sell it on?

Just need to find the right car. reliable unfashionable cars possible with cometic flaws are available

Choose well and you are laughing. contact you local garages for trade ins some wil sell you a car with 5 months mot for £50. I know as i did this.

Man you really do want to wind up mikeb a hire car will have the advantage of a) having a better co2 emissions less likely to break down fully laden with stuff and if it does will probably have some recovery service c) be a less stressful drive d) if pulled by the police no worries about the cars condition. Driving down has so many advantages, arrive when you want, leave when you want and carry all you need without lugging all your stuff from bus to train to bus. You can also listen to all the tunes you want go to the loo when you want even if the driver just wants to get there and you should have gone before you left. Just me at the end there.

We normally car share 3 in the car carry in the tents for our group of 15 and if you are on a budget it is the cheapest way to do it. Physically if you could carry all the booze, food, clothing, tent and other camping equipment the buses would not take it. Public transport is designed for people going to work, day trips and anything where you don't have to carry you house on your back. Could it be better, yes but it would require a total rethink of the transport system and how funding is allocated.
