Still is. I spend more time dealing with benzodiazepine addiction than any other abused substance. They seem to be accepted by many of the medical profession, especially psychiatrists, and are used far beyond the license.

Great for epileptic fits, great for getting someone through a short term problem (including a bad trip I would imagine), a zombifying addiction when used for too long.
