Troop Dogg
I've got to go down to Taunton soon and thought I'd drop in on the festival site just to see what its like the rest of the year. Are you allowed to get onto the site? Cheers!
miniand
I've read that people do, but you have to sort of obey all the countryside rules if you do ie shut gates if you open them
markeee
yea i too wondered about this - have often heard people on the forum saying they had a wander around the site taking some photos of the site before the festival etc so i guess yes, not quite sure though
TokiDoki
I'm not sure if there are any public footpaths etc going through the farm. It would be polite to ask Eavis, since it's his land... but i'm not sure if he would want to be bothered by people asking to wander around the fields. I bet loads of people do. crimsonking
Its a working farm so just becomes part of the countryside when the festivals not on, with public rights of way and footpaths etc, best check an ordnance survey map for the area and see where the footpaths and bridalways are. I'd love to have a mooch round to see what the place looks like for most part of the year.
LostRiot
I believe there are lots of footpaths through it, the old railway for example http://explore.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/advanc...40500&type= Strictly speaking you shouldn't leave a footpath when you're in the countryside, but I'm sure as long as you don't make any mess or upset the cows they won't mind. cabstar
I went this year on 8th June, it was also my 40th birthday. I sent a message to the organisers through OWS asking if I could photo the site for my A level photography course & got a reply. When I went down my name was supposed to be on the gate but it wasn't. Nearly broke my heart it did, 310 miles from our house wetravelled. Security bloke asked how far I had travelled & when I told him he couldn't believe I travelled all that way just to take some photos. So he let me go up to the office, who then sorted it out for me. Absolutely one of the greatest days of my life. I didn't want to turn 40 & wanted it to be over & just forget about it, but now it is my bestest ever birthday lol. If you get the chance, do it I say... Photos here
LostRiot
Looking at the map I'm not so sure the old railway line is a footpath.. To be a path surely the dotted line should be red or green..

Ommadawn
Michael's pretty relaxed about people visiting the farm. No need to ask beforehand but i wouldn't park up by the farm. Try parking at the bus station (there's loads of room) and it's only a short walk to the pyramid stage. Just use common sense and you'll have a great time. I'd be inclined to leave it for a few weeks though. There's still loads of work going on (the fence still isn't completely down) and you don't want to get in the way. JJ28
I believe you can go down. But give Mr E a ring to let him know - yep he is in the phone book. Or failing that, give the festival office a ring. I believe that they are open all year round.
wweerr208
a small consideration is the fact not all the land the festival is on belongs to Mr Eavis (no idea which bits are and are not - or if it's just the car parks)

fairyinboots
Via ME. Very long story, but it was via him. Had to let them know I was there, and when I left. Had the most amazing time though, and he was wonderful in letting me park where I did etc. Do go if you can though, it really is worth it. Conrax
I've been on the site when the festival isn't there, it was last March i think. It is very strange when there's nothing there but you still know exactly where you are for example oh this is where the other stage is, but it's really cool standing in front of the Pyramid when all its just a metal frame. bambina
We were there last weekend. It was VERY muddy underfoot and crossing some fields is prevented with fencing to keep the sheep in. Just park in the coach park bit and take wellies. Oh and the Greenpeace ship is all knocked down and they were in the process of welding something together to replace it! cabstar
It's still a special place even without the festival being there
