as I recall, scavenging used to be the remit of the litter pickers that worked Tuesday and beyond. And so it should remain. Any goodies that are left...they've earned them

I like the leave it for the litter pickers suggestion - Tuesday onwards and good luck to them.

Mind you, if we "self litter pick" on Monday afternoon does that not save on litter picker wages and keep ticket prices down????

I hate people who abandon perfectly good stuff because they simply can't be arsed to take it home.

It's actually one of the aguments in favour of people going by car. Car people tend to take their stuff home. If you come by bus/coach it is tempting to leave things behind.

I've had the same tent and most of my camping gear for years. I don't leave anything behind and check thoroughly for pegs.

You really should learn what you are talking about. Had you qualified that with the modifier "some people" and quite clearly excluded Eavis from that then your post would make sense. If you really think Eavis tries to maximise profit like the corporate festivals then you couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm unreasonably proud of how long I've had my chair for. It's lasted 3 Readings and 2 Glastonburys and if you've been to Reading you know it's an unlikely thing to happen, it's a chair merry-go-round at that place. I think the fact it's bright orange helps, if someone nearby nicked it I'd soon be able to track it down if I wanted to.

It always baffles me when people leave tents full stop, it just means you're going to have to spend between 20-50 quid the next year. BUt those who leave the huge tents that cost £100+ must be able to throw money away! There's surely no excuse for that amount of lazyness!

I have some lovely flowers from the hanging baskets on those wooden arbour things at the Jazzworld stage :D

On Monday morning, I spoke to a woman who was removing the baskets up by the main market area. They were taking the baskets down, removing the flowers and soil, putting the baskets in the back of a van to re-use and leaving the flowers on the ground. She told me you could buy complete baskets for £5 each, but any flowers left on the ground were up for grabs.

Later on, they'd done the same with the baskets up by Jazzworld. We were camping in Green Futures, so I had a little hunt and found some empty boxes and bought four lots of flowers home. I re-potted them when we got home and now have a gorgeous instant flower garden.

My daughter's wellies split, and I spotted a really nice pair next to a bin, plus one of those Guardian bags to carry them back in.

The litter pickers that start on the Tuesday after are paid £6.84 an hour and get three meals a day, I saw some posters for it. Could be quite good if you've got nothing better to do and don't come across any corpses :D

My only question is why you took half a crate of Carling in to begin with? I could understand you taking in a whole crate, drinking a can and realising what a waste of effort it was carrying in Carling, but either you took in a half crate and left it, or you took in a whole crate and it took you half a crate to realise what undrinkable cack warm Carling is!!!

I can't quite decide where I stand on this one.

On one hand, sure, if stuff has been left behind by people, someone might as well grab it and use it, rather than it going to landfill.

But that doesn't really address the root of the problem. Whatever happened to "leave no trace"?

I think it's pretty disgraceful the way people just leave stuff behind on the assumption someone else will scavenge it or pick it up. It seems to me it runs against the ethos of the festival (remembering the stuff I've seen about our 'throwaway society' in the Greenpeace field and on the railway line in recent years).

So please, next year, take only the stuff you need and don't leave anything behind. If you managed to drag it onto the site you sure as hell can manage to drag it off. No matter how shit and hungover you feel.

    • This basically!, it's about as clear as day they'll be there.
    • Yeah there is no down time, I'm still tired and over thinking from last weeks work. A big reality check this week. If you just do it for the money you always will.

    • Robbie Williams would fit with the current state of the legend’s slot, and he’d bring the house down.
