Michael Jackson has died - Glasto reactions

I don't know for covers yet, because unless you already have one rehearsed that's a pretty quick turn around to learn one up special. Although I suspect that Bjorn Again probably have one in store.

But the general Jackson vibe around site last night was amazing. As we came out of East 17 the rumours were already rife, and by the time we got back to the compound everybody was asking everybody else if it was true.

We saw a bloke wearing an "I Shot Jacko" shirt at about 1am, looking pleased as punch with himself. Then one of the Wine Bar stalls started playing The Man in The Mirror and the whole street ran to the area in front of it and started singing along at the top of their lungs.

Then we met a fellla who'd paid £2500 for a pair of second row tickets on the second night of the Jackson run - talk about crestfallen.

Then when we went to the Silent Disco, the DJ dropped that old big beat rave tune Michael Jackson (Basement Jaxx, anyone???) and the tent went insane.

It was a pretty amazing vibe right around site last night, and I'm sure everyone's got a dozen stories of their own.

It may be sour grapes because I'm not there, but I'm finding the constant voxpops in the media of Glastonbury punters opinions on his death bizarre and irritating. I'm not interested in semi-coherent ramblings about Jacko by an inebriated bell-end in a straw hat. It's not enough that these people are having a good time, now their opinion is somehow valid for the nation too.

I was just a bit confused when I heard it. I thought I'd seen a sign with it written on which seemed strange. It was on Thursday night... Not my finest hour. However, I thought the reaction on site was quite good. There seemed to be a balance between the need to show respect and still be iconoclastic and not bow to the Establishment viewpoint of "woe, woe and thrice woe".

I thought this was a good rumour that someone had started - just plausible enough to spread quickly, but just outrageous enough to be be pretty definitely untrue.

Until I got back to our tent and discovered it was the truth!

I was astounded at the way it spread like absolute wildfire though. One minute we hadn't heard it mentioned - the next it was on the lips of everyone in the Park.

Then the next evening we saw two guys in "I killed Michael Jackson" t-shirts in the silent disco. Fast work!

i remember getting a text from my BF during the east 17 set. first text said he was in a serious way and i dismissed it and got on with jamming to 'deep' and then a few mins later he texts me saying 'jacko is dead' and i no longer enjoyed my east 17 experience. i stood there numb and because i was front row i called the security guard over and i was like 'dude..michael jackson has just died'. he shrugged. i guess he just didnt hear me. :P
