Excuse me if I sound stupid (its 08:55am) but why do festivals use the whole token thing for drink? I can't think why.

Maybe so that people spend all their cash on tokens at the start of the day before they spend it on pink cowboy hats etc when they are drunk or something?

Any idea's?

Also its easier to manage security at the bars, plus check on staff possibly stealing due to only being a few people issuing tokens (which are normally done by the catering company)

Can you do that? Brilliant. But I'll probably be too drunk to do either.

Something wrong if you've got tokens left at the end of the weekend.

The token system makes it easier to get a licence.

Because technically they are not vending alohol, they are selling tickets which entitle the bearer to a product.

Its like party nights that people do, that offer unlimited drink inclusive in the original ticket price, what happen is the ticket is sold, and because no cash is being taken for alcohol at the actual event, there effectivly giving it away, no bar licence, or even staff over 16 are required.

They use to be able to call it a raffle, in which every ticket wins, but the councils closed that clause. So now when you buy a bar token , what your actually getting is commonly known as a 'refreshments package'.

What i said is more true for private event which dont need PELs, just a bar licence. I hate the application process for PELs, especially the complexity of the maps needed, well depending on the coucil, glasgow city is the worst iv dealt with.
