The Offspring.....

when did the offspring become popular?

i have heard so many people on here say they are desperate to see them.....

smash was a decent album as was americana but that was 10+ years ago and they were never a HUGE band in the same sense as metallica/rage/smashing pumpkins et al were huge. their latest stuff is not very good by all accounts and i have not heard anyone even mention them in about 6 years (maybe i'm getting too old?! )

i have happened to seen the offspring once or twice before and they were meh.....ok.

surely rancid or weezer would be more desirable to people of that that musical persuasion?

;)

You mean apart from them headlining Download last year?! They are a great live band with some quality songs that are much better than anything most of the bands on the line-up could hope to achieve, even if the unthinkable happens and somme of these bands are around as long as The Offspring have been. Sure the latest albums haven't been as consistent as Smash and Americana, but there have still been some decent tunes. I would argue that they're just as popular today as they were in 2004 when they 2nd headlined the main stage, and because they don't get over here that often they're a huge draw whenever they do.

Am hugely disappointed with this year's ultra-indie line-up. Offspring might just save the weekend. Really hope it happens. Much as I like Rancid, Offspring have much better songs. And Weezer are not really punk rock at all...

reel big fish also remind me of school!

good fun to watch (better than offspring!)...and didn't they release a covers album recently?

despite that being rather lame it would make for a good time at a festival!!!!!!

those 2 albums u mentioned have sold almost 25 million between em! that kinda makes em a big selling band!

ok, i'm a massive offspring fan (and loved the last album incidentally, tho splinter was crap!) so might be a touch biased, but they're surely too big for 2nd stage headliner?

and they were great at download last yr, a proper sing a long band

much better than whatever'll be on the main stage ;)

I'd say Lostprophet could pull a far bigger crowd at Reading and Leeds nowadays then Offspring, so if Lostprophets are headlining the tent then Offspring shouldn't have too much to worry about. The same thing is said every year about Manics, or Ash, or Primal Scream etc.

But yeah, Offspring would just add some more variety to a weekend lacking much other then indie regurgetated from the lower stages of the past 2 years.
