True dat. One of the only songs where an external arranger was involved.

Hard to judge for sure, but as far as lengthy comebacks go, this is more like Bowie than the Roses. Better than King Kong Song, probably not as good as The King Has Lost His Crown. They're not bad, time will tell

It's definitely better than any of the solo stuff.

Actual, new ABBA songs that actually sound like ABBA.

I think the second song is at the end of the livestream, I can't believe I'm watching this interview rather than listening to the upbeat one!

It was no Brown Sugar, anyway! Fuck me, the other new song is there. And the livestream is on.

    Getting quite nervous now:

  10. I've always wondered that. I presumed it couldn't be replicated.
  11. I'm not sure if it was actually canvas, so much as just a big tent made of the normal plasticy material (nylon?). But it was on the whole worse than Fresh &Black, but better than a normal small 3 man tent.
  12. You'd be surprised how far Beatlemania can go

The thing is, they still write music (well Benny does and Bjorn just writes words) and it's really nothing special. But they've not really tried to do any pop music. I'm still intrigued to hear that blend of Frida+Agnetha singing together, I think that will still sound ABBA. A shame that Rutger Gunnarsson on bass won't be a part of things.

What is the longest gap between new single releases for a band? This is a bigger gap than the Beatles, which wasn't even 30 years. 1983 was the last time they released a single. 38 years!
  15. They play some good tunes in there though.

    Actually, properly new stuff.
  17. He was a random baby. Of course they don't give a shit about his poxy art thing.
  18. I don't know if anyone has read Lol Tolhurst's memoir Two Imaginary Boys, but in that case a lawyer managed to instill a sense of grievance in Lol, leading to a lengthy court case where he sued his mates, later regretting it badly, presumably in no small part because he lost. The lawyers got paid.
  19. I performed so dismally in this I stopped counting.
  20. I think I've heard it mentioned that it's normally crew camping.
  21. This young man is extraordinary. For pure musicianship, he puts the likes of Prince in the shade. Multiple Grammy award winner, he's done things in music that have literally never been done before - using microtonal theory to change key by and tuning system in a way that sounds more in tune than normal harmonies. It's all very complicated and I don't understand it. This cover of All Night Long has about a section beginning at about 4:25 that does quite incredible things to the ears. And this seemingly improvised cover of Fix You, whilst it has a slightly meandering section takes the Coldplay song through multiple keys in a way that strengthens the emotional message of the song (song starts 1 minute in). It's quite beautiful. Finally, this livestreamed duet with Chris Martin where Martin has to stop the song and make a comparison to Amadeus. Never mind the fact that he could continue playing piano over the internet and not get distracted by Chris Martin seemingly being out of time - he just adjusted for the latency in his head and could still play in time. A combination of extreme talent, hard work and being taught music from an early age by his musician family. So, despite all this, sometimes the music isn't all that great to listen to, despite it bursting with innovation and talent. But no doubt, the man is crazy, crazy talented. Could he play Glastonbury? And if so, where?

    CIDER

Cider has been coming up on other threads as regularly as Radiohead used to before we got it out of our system, so I want a dedicated thread for cider. I bloody love the stuff, a realer the better. I'm looking at these two: https://www.eebria.com/products/cider/yarde-cider/774-yarde-real-cider-3-litre-bag-in-box https://www.eebria.com/products/cider/severn-cider/5960-brown-snout-still-cider-5-litre-dry What's everyone going to be bringing?
