  1. I think that's the expectation here - once the South American editions of the Primavera fests are finished, and just ahead of the last payday before Christmas. It makes sense, but it has fallen later in the past so don't be totally shocked if it post-Xmas, but it's such a competitive market out there now, it might be wise to steal a march on their rivals.
  2. Any of you lot get yer Glasto tickets? I wasn't in the running this year but have spotted some news stories about the site issues etc.
  3. I could see both at PS for sure. Only thing to factor in is the Chemical Brothers are re doing a heap of cancelled shows from last year. Around Glasto, they wiped out about a week or two of gigs due to illness, so those are part of the equation for them. Not sure it'll matter - PS is early enough to have them included without clashing with a pre scheduled gig from twelve months (probably 24 or 36 month actually!) earlier. Blondie could be fun too.
  4. Didn't PS say its an identical line up, bar some of the lower ends of the bill, though? Maybe I'm remembering that wrong but that was what I had in my head.
  5. Also in Manchester for two gigs the weekend of Primavera anyway. All-but ruled out with the initial tour announcement a few weeks ago. They'll be announced for Trnsmt today too. That's July too, but this year's edition has The Strokes so you never know.
  6. They've two gigs in Manchester over the Primavera weekend so it seems unlikely.
  7. What were the transport issues in BCN this year? I must have escaped those. Fan zone idea isn't terrible... Possibly. I mean, I'd prefer to explore Madrid during the day, but if its operating early afternoon, its not a bad option for food and drink and then hop on a bus. In theory. My understanding is the Wanda is quite a bit out of the centre of town, though, right? So that's not exactly ideal, either. If the lineups are close to identical (they've said they will be, right?), then I still don't see the appeal of Madrid in this sense. I'd much rather go to Madrid in march or October for a weekend and PS in Barcelona in June!
  8. I really enjoyed them the last time they played. Wasn't sure it would work in a huge outdoor space but it was a great show. Not mad about the most recent record but I'd still definitely do my best to be there. We're probably only a few weeks out from an announcement, are we? Or, at the very least, only a few weeks out from more bands plotting out their spring and summer tours and announcing pre-Christmas. Any new predictions?
  9. Plenty would have to fly (or travel long distances from around the UK) to attend Glasto too. If you're just comparing ticket prices and experiences, the Glasto price hike certainly stings IMO. Not that I'm necessarily advocating people go back to Primavera Sound either, I didn't buy my ticket yet and might not buy at all. Its all getting a bit out of control lately. Individual gigs and festival tickets... I know they can say the cost of living crisis means everything has gone up so its more expensive to run, but I can just as easily say my cost of living has gone up and I don't have the disposable income to stump up €/£300 for a weekend of music. (and that's before my flight, accommodation, or tent, camper van etc) Here, these are very first world problems. I know. But if I can't complain about festival prices here, where can I do it?!
  10. Only way to fight this is to bring Idles back. "We're an anti-monarchy band. Fuck the Queen." On the jubilee. A real highlight in the middle of their set. One or two slightly confused British lads near me, most of the other Brits nearby cheered along, to be fair.
  11. I hope that, in addition to the A La Ciutat programme in the city, that BCN brings back the free gig at the Forum on the Wednesday. The demand to get into things like Wet Leg this year was enormous, so opening the FORUM a day early for those (if it's possible) makes sense IMO.
  12. Is this going to be the third limited sale ahead of the big sale? Good thing they've upped the capacity so much, otherwise I'd be starting to get worried about my chances in the eventual sale... /s
  13. Certainly not active next year or any time soon, I'd say. https://ultimateclassicrock.com/radiohead-hiatus-ed-o-brien/ Ed says they'll "probably" play together again from this interview during the summer. Wouldn't fill you with the hope of an imminent return to the stage anyway!
  14. I wonder are we more likely to see Depeche Mode doing some Primavera-organised tour dates in Spain, rather than the festival itself? Would seem very early for a line up announcement, although I guess they don't need to announce the full thing if they struck a particular deal with one or two bands!
  15. Well, they've committed the cardinal sin of being popular, don't you know... 😅 Ah sure lookit, I love AM but I'd rather see them at a standalone show, and it's certainly fair to say there was a much bigger British lad element to the last year they played PS than any other time I've been. So if that's where people are coming from, I can get why there might be some people pleased to see them all-but ruled out. That said, I wouldn't be rushing out to pick up tix on the basis of some of the other rumoured headline acts. Different strokes, etc. But I am on record here, I think, in saying I'm more keen on a stronger undercard than headliners next time out so I can avoid Mordor more. Didn't enjoy my time there this year.
  16. Sure, but it's clearly hitting the band's reputation at present and any festivals that book them would, likely, see a similar hit. Feist was criticised for supporting them in Ireland and has since quit the rest of the tour and donated her proceeds to a women's charity, so if other artists are operating in this manner, I wouldn't be surprised to see Arcade Fire go quiet for a little while after this tour. At the very least, I'd be very surprised to see PS (who went very public and very loud with the New Normal) align themselves with them in the midst of the media storm.
  17. Id pay really good money to see Arctic Monkeys do an indoor, mellow show for the last album (and the new one, judging by the new track) but I wouldnt be too excited to see them do it on the main stage to 60,000 people when I'm a mile back and everyone is chatting. Always an issue with a big band, of course, that people just want to see the hits, but I think it makes it a little worse when the new stuff is also mellow. So if I'm discounting AM and Arcade Fire, my early season predictions are all wrong so. 🙂
  18. Jarvis Cocker has confirmed that Pulp are reuniting for live shows next year. Gotta be a good shout as headliner? https://www.brooklynvegan.com/pulp-are-reuniting-for-shows-in-2023/
  19. Watch the crowd turn from 20 year olds to 50 year olds overnight. 😂
  20. Tour kicks off in Barcelona on April 28 so I'd say it's a no go. Plus, it's all standalone shows. Not common to see a festival wedged in there. As fun as it would be.
  21. I think if PS is happy to have Dua Lipa as a headliner, they won't say no to the 1975 either. Nothing wrong with either act IMO, just represents a change at the top. I'd say we can expect a nostalgia/oldy act, a big pop headliner, an indie band, and an up-and-comer that prompts everyone to say "ah they're not a headliner" only for them to get a huge crowd. Add in some electronic bits and it's a handy formula. So for me, that could very easily be Nine Inch Nails, the 1975, someone like LCD soundsystem, Vampire Weekend or Bon Iver, and maybe a Phoebe Bridgers or Mitski type, with the electronic slots filled out by the likes of Bicep, the Chemical Brothers or Moderat. But I won't be at all surprised if none of those acts are there either. The wildcard then is the mega R&B or pop act. Your Frank Ocean/Weeknd type, which could gobble up the pop slot too, or be alongside it. Its fun to speculate - but with the slow pivot of all festivals to include a broader style of music, including more pop and reggaeton, etc, I'm certainly finding it trickier to guess in advance!
  22. I wasn't a fan of the side-by-side stages at all. If I could make one change for next year, it would be to revert to the older set up. But given Gabi's remarks about how successful it was, that ain't happening. I think the combination of the mega crowd gathering all together, combined with the distracting set up/dismantling while the other act was on just meant it was a bit off, for me. So now I'm at the stage of hoping that I'm not too keen on any of the major headliners, which is a bit strange. I'd be much happier with a weekend of bouncing from Cupra to Binance and Plenitude etc. Anyway, in headliner prediction games... Lcd Soundsystem? Been a while since they were there, not sure how the BBK performance went. I can definitely see Rosalia or Bad Bunny as the big pop headline act, which is cool as I'm not too into either, so I'd be able to wander off. And everyone seems very confident in Nine Inch Nails or Portishead so I can get on board there.
  23. I held off on the early bird tickets. I may well regret it with the price difference and the likely strong line up, but gotta cut your cloth somewhere. Will see later in the year how my usual PS crew is holding up, there wasn't much appetite for the extra spending this week more than anything. Too many other holidays and gigs to pay off! It's a tough life... 😂
