Just given the album a spin - had very high hopes after loving 3WW and In Cold Blood but finished it feeling very underwhelmed. It's clear they've pinned it all on those two tracks and the rest of the album is an afterthought, ranging from forgettable to downright awful in the case of 'Hit Me Like That Snare,' apparently some kind of parody joke track that accidentally got left on the album and they couldn't be bothered to take it off. No idea what they were thinking with that one, it's really cringeworthy. Not doing themselves any favours by making one track on their 8-track album a weirdly pointless 'House of the Rising Sun' cover, either.

Sorry, had to vent - I really wanted this to be good but, yeah, it's not. Having second thoughts about my Saturday headliner after that.

Are they, the majority of school leavers I spoke to don't know who Kasabian are (heck, I know them way less than the Killers, I had only heard of Fire before this R+L). RHCP are well known amongst them as a brand but few know there songs. However, I can guarantee that they all know the majority of Hot Fuss and probably know some other songs e.g. When We Were Young.  Heck, just look at the difference in spotify plays between Kasabian and The Killers

And I know what you mean. IMO The Killers aren't going to shift day tickets (though maybe BST disagrees with me) however, I would consider them a very strong headliner that a lot of people enjoy and people would go and see if they are going for a weekend ticket or if there is some other killer, unique act (like Liam Gallagher) on that day. Even so I think your vastly underestimating how popular they are.

Source: I have a sister in lower sixth and her friends are also from lower sixth.....

Tbf I'm now 21 so I'm no longer part of the demographic but the impression I get is that Kasabian and RHCP are much bigger deals amongst school leavers (the ones who'd go to R&L rather than V) than The Killers.

I dunno, I think the Killers has more appeal than other bands e.g. Kasabian and RHCP. I think that being the reason for them not headlining would be a bad one. Especially with Glasto being off the cards I can't see them playing IOW on the first time out on the new album.

And tbh you can't take the quality of peoples new music into consideration at this point. Heck, look at Eminem who hasn't put any new solo work out since the last time he played (or tbh even look at the Quality of Muse's last couple of releases). Especially if Paramore are playing (who cover the more punk  and really indie crowd) and then royal blood headlining/coheadlining (for the heavier crowd) I can't see it not being either Arctics or the Killers at this point. As personally I think it'll be too soon for the Arctics to play R+L (they left it 5 years last time) I think Killers is loooking more and more likely (tbh could see them doing both R+L and TRNSMT)

RHCP and Kasabian are both huge amongst school-leavers. The Killers may have more appeal in general, but not to the R&L crowd. Muse less so but they're more in keeping with the alternative side of the festival, same with the likes of Metallica and Green Day.

I'm not talking about the quality of their new music, I'm saying in terms of the people listening to the band it'll need to get some of the people who attend R&L listening to it, which I can't see happening. Muse and Eminem don't need that, they're both already listened to by people who attend R&L.

So, after a little browsing on Amazon, it seems The Cure are re-releasing their Greatest Hits compilation on the Monday after Glastonbury. This seems a strange decision as there is no tour at the moment and it seems rather odd, unless of course it is to cash in on the TV coverage they get when they play a secret set.........

    No that is not happening.

What about Rage against the Machine? Zack de la Rocha has been performing with run the jewels on their recent tour, so he may be performing at Glasto with them - then he could possibly cross over to the other stage for the TBA spot a little while after.

Rage Against the Machine are not reforming to play in the middle of the afternoon on the Other Stage.

Plus the rest of the band are playing a gig as Prophets of Rage that night in Spain.

yeah i guess it does depend on how well this album goes, but their BST show has sold well. also it would be their 10 year anniversary of their last/first headline at R&L. it'll be pretty easy to get them as an exclusive too, IOW had them in 2013 so i guess they could book them again but they should have other options. i guess the only other competitor would be TRNSMT.

It's more that I don't think The Killers' fanbase and the R&L crowd have a very large crossover. Maybe their new album will push them back into relevance but I can't see It. It'll sell well amongst people in their 20s and above who liked them previously but I can't see them picking up many new school-leaver-age fans (same as when KOL release new albums).

A lot depends on what they do with this new album really. I definitely don't think you can rule it out.

I don't feel like they're really on the radar of 16/17 year old R&L goers now other than Mr Brightside. The 'indie' acts from their era who still get booked hold some sort of 'cool' factor (Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Libertines) which leads to teenagers getting into them. The ones like The Killers and KOL don't have this and I see them as being left to their own shows, BST and festivals with a less specific audience such as IOW and V.

Struggling with the Stormzy and National clash. I know there's only a 15 minute crossover but with with journey times I have to miss a big chunk of one or the other.

Now The National are one of my favourite bands, so it should be a no brainer, but throw into the mix the seemingly poor slot, the fact I have tickets for one of their London shows and the fact all of my mates will be at Stormzy (who I do really like as well) and we have a genuine dilemma!

Head says Stormzy and heart says The National because, well, it's The National at Glastonbury!

    Help me out good people!

The National. Stormzy will be everywhere for the next few years at least and will probably be back at Glasto in two years. We've been waiting ages for The National to come back and it's going to be beautiful.

I was really looking forward to Stormzy but I've sacked him off entirely now in favour of seeing full sets from The National and FJM.

Thanks mate.I thought that the TBA was usually 11:00am but someone said it was 10am. So no TBA opener this year but a few more scattered across the rest of the lineup?

Dental suggested at one point that there wouldn't be one because they've got a special act opening the Pyramid and it'd be silly to have a special guest opening Other at the same time drawing people away from it. I guess that ended up being correct.

This is a complete mind fuck, what a ridiculous time from them to be playing?????

Surly they SHOULD and DESERVE to be much higher even to sub the other stage, how are the Kaiser fucking chiefs getting a better slot?????

    RUBY RUBY FUCK OFF!!!

Slaves subbing the Other Stage?? They've already been forgotten about, haven't they? I'd have expected them a couple from the bottom of the Other Stage tbh.

I'm still so annoyed that Beck wasn't third down below Ellie Goulding. Would have made way more sense size-wise, crowd-wise (having Goulding sub Coldplay) and would have removed that ridiculous Beck/Peej clash. Instead of having a shit in my tent whilst listening to a mashup of Craig Charles on Arcadia and Catfish on Other I could have been watching Beck on the Pyramid Stage ffs.

ELO > Beck > PJ Harvey > LCD Soundsystem would have been an unbelievable end to the festival.

  11. Been hammering Phoenix a bit the last few days to make sure this is where I wanna be on Saturday night and I'm actually really excited for this now. I only really knew 5 or so songs before now but the rest of their stuff holds up brilliantly and their setlists look great. Stage show looks incredible, too.

A 2-for-1 of Phoenix and Father John Misty over Foos is defo the right Saturday night choice for me.

Think it is pretty clear who the top two are going to be

Radiohead will defo get targeted with negative hits at some point (when The Nal starts playing). I'd expect someone like Justice or Phoenix who no one really hates to come out on top. The R&L hurt/heals always go that way, the big names that lots of people like get targeted after a while.
