ENGLAND FANS GET SOME GREAT NEWS - TNA ANNOUNCES RETURN TOUR OF THE UK IN JANUARY!

In recent days, TNA management promised some big news for our loyal fans in England, and TNA President Dixie Carter delivered it personally during Saturday's sold-out show in Coventry!

TNA Wrestling will return to the U.K. for four shows in January, 2009, Carter announced during the live event. The 2009 shows will headline the "Maximum iMPACT! Tour." The itinerary is:

Tuesday, January 20 - Manchester, England - Manchester Evening News Arena

Wednesday, January 21 - Birmingham, England - National Indoor Arena

Thursday, January 22 - Glasgow, Scotland - Braehead Arena

Saturday, January 24 - London, England - Wembley Arena

Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 27 at 9 A.M.

The tour will be promoted by John Cornwell of SJM Concerts.

"The reception TNA Wrestling received this week from the U.K. fans has been nothing short of incredible and we look forward to returning in January," Carter said.

Keep checking www.tnawrestling.com for more details on the January 2009 U.K. tour.

Erm...

The MEN should hold 18000 for that event.

Wembley arena will hold about 120000.

NIA will hold 10000.

Lots of empty seats. (not that thats anything new).

Expensive to hire out these arenas, so they're going to lose money unless they sell quite a lot of tickets. Which i dont think they will.

I bet you a tenner they wont. Each arena, 50% full. Tops.

Who they going to market it to? Seriously, who watches the show, and then enjoys it enough to splash out the money to go and watch it?

Who are all the kids going to want to go and see? They're all going to go watch WWE.

Yes, TNA, has some hardcore fans, but hell, ECW had the most hardcore fans of all time and look what happenned there. and people were still tuning into WCW at the end... And people are still watching Raw for some reason.

You're always so down on TNA, they will sell, TNA is growing bigger each week, I expect bravo to push it big now they've lost UFC

and the wembley date wont be the 120,000, thats the stadium, the arena is the same size as the rest of the tour

im gunna go birmingham date for sure

6 DAYS UNTIL THE DRAFT

LETS TALK DRAFT

heres Vince when questioned on the draft

''We don't do that necessarily every year, but I think we will in the future. It shakes things up. It refreshens the product and we have some major moves planned. It's a good thing. I think everyone looks forward to that because you don't know where the superstars or your favorite ones are going or which ones are coming, which issues are resolved, which ones are left open, so it's an exciting show.''

So major moves... John Cena to Smackdown? Batista to Raw? Edge to Raw? Undertaker to follow him to Raw on his return? Shawn Michales to Smackdown? HHH to Smackdown?

Those are the major moves IMO

Jericho is staying on Raw, its in his contract apparently

Umaga is going Smackdown, Vince has already said he's moving brands in the shareholders meeting a month ago, and surely they wouldn't move him to ECW

Don't forget, ECW is now being taped before Raw, so the trade of tallent between ECW and Smackdown will stop. Therefore, I'm expecting a whole bunch of trades between ECW and smackdown behind the scenes. I'd say the main trades (mostly between Raw and Smackdown) will be:

To Smackdown

Punk

Umanga

Jeff Hardy (and will soon take back his MitB case to eventually set up an awesome Edge vs Hardy feud)

Santino

To Raw

MVP

Taker

Batista

a woman or two... Kelly Kelly or McCool

Carlito will disappear never to be seen again. There's not a cats chance in hell HHH or Cena are moving to the B show - that would be the very definition of no buys.

Khali?

I dunno, he has a pretty good spot on smackdown and I don't think he would mantain that spot on Raw, and they want him in a good spot cus he's so important for overseas

Burke & Punk will move I think

If Carlito is staying he should move

Shelton needs to move or get pushed on ECW

I can see Batista and Jeff Hardy switching as the big faces

Not that the draft means anything these days. Big Show for instance, is apparently a Smackdown guy, whose first feud back was on both shows, and is now fighting for the ECW Championship.

You know, despite the death of Eddy Guerrero, and Bobby lashley being involved, the Raw v Smackdown feud of late 2005 was so brilliant. If they did that now it would mean shit.

i know im going to be disapointed by the draft.

what i want to happen

To Raw;

John Morrison

The Miz

Batista

MVP

Estrada (new gm + fued with regal on his return)

Mike Adamle

Elijah Burke

Matt Hardy

Edge (with title)

To Ecw;

Big Show

The Highlanders

Super Crazy

Jamie Nobel

Jimmy Wang Yang

Shannon Moore

Jerry Lawler

Rey Mysterio

Funaki

Paul London

Brian Kendrick

Mark Henry

Khali

Mick Foley

Hopefully starting some form of cruiserwieght divison on ECW

To Smackdow;

Carlito

John Cena (Arrive with title after beating hhh at NOC)

Cryme Time

Santino

Umaga

Cm Punk

Chavo

Bam Neely

Tazz

Jerico

I know this is to many picks but it would be a great way to properly shake everything up and would be a bit surprising.

My N.O.C predictions are;

WWE Champion - Triple H vs. John Cena - Cena

World Heavyweight Champion - Edge vs Batista - Edge

ECW Champion - Kane vs. Big Show - Kane

World Tag Team Championship Match - Hardcore Holly & Cody Rodes vs. Ted jr and ??? - Ted Jr and ??? (cody heel turn)

WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz vs. Finlay & Hornswoggle - Finlay and Hornswoggle (please god no)

United States Champion Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero - Chavo

WWE Women's Champion Mickie James vs. Katie Lea Burchill (WWE Women's Championship Match) - Katie Lea

^ an big fan of title changes I see... it's a night where all the champions fight, not where most of the champions loose..

HHH over Cena

Edge over Batista

Kane over Big Show (this is the one I'm least confident about)

Ted Jr & DH Smith over Holly & Rhodes (Rhodes turns heel on Holly)

M&M over Finlay & Hornswaggle

Hardy over Chavo

James over Katie

You're missing two matches off the NOC card

IC Title - Jericho v Shawn Michales

Divas Title - Natalya v TBA

I think your draft picks are pretty good ross, and would love Jerry Lawler and JR to be split up but would rather have Foley on raw than Mik Adamle

No way in hell will Rey Mysterio ever be put on ECW

same goes for Great Khali they're both too important in the markets [spanish & asian]

I too want a cruiserweight division on ECW as Ive posted in the past

JR says there WILL be main event names moving in the draft on Monday

So who do we think Batista to Raw, I would say move Rey Mysterio to Raw but because of Smackdowns high value in spanish areas they've not done this in the past, I feel they need to gamble and do this now though, Rey has been on Smackdown for what 7 years? time to move him definatly IMO

But who goes to Smackdown who is main event? thats the question?

IMO, HHH should go, hes been on RAW forever, move him to Smackdown and if he's that much of a draw and a star like he thinks he is, he shouldn't mind, a HHH - Edge fued on Smackdown after the Taker fued has finished would be great

Maybe JBL to Smackdown, he just is not working on Raw at all

Keep Cena on Raw, fued with Hardy, Mysterio, Batista, and the long awaited return fued with Jericho

maybe its time for Cena to turn heel though, hes VERY stale right now, would be a good way for him to get the strap off a leaving HHH

    • Very nice to read your review.  Here's mine.  I enjoyed it all so much that I bought a pre-sale ticket for 2027!   ____   WOMAD FESTIVAL 23-26 July 2026  Neston Park, Corsham, Wiltshere   Womad is back! The festival took a year off last year to recalibrate. They were moving to a new location, and no doubt the fact that so many festivals have ceased to exist as a result of financial problems in the current climate made it important for Womad to get things right going forward. And did they! The festival was a resounding success. Sold out, with brilliant music and smiling faces all around.    From 2007 until 2024 the festival was held at Charlton Park in Wiltshere. I went there six times.  Sometimes the festival clashed wth Cambridge Folk Festival, but since the pandemic I have found myself preferring Womad. It offers greater diversity. There are acts from all over the world and I feel I can trust the organisers to come up with stuff I will enjoy.    The new site is a beauty. Neston Park is an estate near Corsham.  Melksham is the nearest train station; Bath the nearest bigger town. The Real World studios are nearby in the village of Box. The weather was again very warm and the site thankfully has many shaded areas with trees. The camping fields offer enough space that people do not need to camp on top of each other. There are four main stages and best of all, programming is such that there was never any sound overspill. Toilets were mostly of the compost variety. The food I sampled was delicious, albeit expensive, and they had very nice Clear Head alcohol-free beer on tap, which predictably ran out on Saturday.    I went as an Oxfam volunteer, which benefits a good cause and was enjoyable as ever, but I have to admit that it was killing me how much I was missing that I wanted to be at, due to having to work. I was not able to participate in the many interesting workshops and presentations on offer. I am planning to go as a punter next year, and volunteer elsewhere where the lineup is less crucial. My shifts were in the camping fields. This was relatively easy due to the Womad festival goers being very well behaved (“You can’t go that way“; “Oh, I see”). I enjoyed spending time up on the fire tower, from where the view was great.   Peter Gabriel made an appearance at the World of Words stage. Lopa Kothari was on compere duty on the World Stage (the main stage), and for me a most welcome addition was Justin Adams compering the second stage - the Big Top. Justin is a fantastic guitarist who has collaborated with and produced many world music greats (Robert Plant, Tinariwen, Souad Massi, Sharon Shannon). Justin is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, it was a real joy to have him in the Big Top all weekend, and I liked his unshouty style of presenting.   These were my musical highlights:   1. GANAVYA (India) - Big Top   Singer Ganavya is from New York, of Indian heritage, and she spent many years living in Tamil Nadu. The first striking thing when she walks onstage is how pregnant she is. She explains she is eight months. At times it looked like there might be a Womad baby. Ganavya is accompanied by a harpist and a cellist. Stunning music and great storytelling too. She is a graduate from Berklee College of Music and has worked as a teacher as well, which is evident from her engaging talk. She reminded me of Arooj Aftab, mostly because of her dry and self-deprecating sense of humour. Her show ended with a wonderful singalong traditional, the high point of the entire festival for me. I will certainly seek her music out further.   2. SEPPUKU PISTOLS (Japan) - World Stage   The Seppuku Pistols are an anarchist punk group with traditional instruments. There’s thirteen of them, different ages. They started in the middle of the crowd and then made their way over to the stage. Many of the members play percussion. The leader is an older guy, who spoke at length and with great conviction in Japanese, before yelling “translate!” to a band member. There was so much going on, sometimes you didn’t know where to look. I was near the front, but band members frequently went with instruments and all into the moshpit. At the same time someone could come crowdsurfing overhead. Apparently one of them broke his ankle, didn’t realise and finished the gig. “I think you all need to go and decompress”, Lopa Kothari said to the audience once it was over. Everybody left the main stage with big smiles, shaking their heads.   3. GANNA (Ukraine) - Sunflower Tent   Ganna is a Ukrainian singer, based in Berlin. She performs solo, standing behind a table with equipment. This is never my favourite set-up, however her voice, songs, stage presence and stories were so remarkable that I can get over the lack of a proper band. My shift partner saw her at the ‘Taste the World’ stage and told me she is equally good without the box of tricks. Her singing is not unlike Sámi joiking. Ganna’s singing was so impressive that everyone (finally!) stopped talking. Her music is an intriguing mix of traditional songs over very contemporary electronics. She spoke about the situation in Ukraine, including some very personal stories. I would have loved for this show to have been longer.   4. OUMOU SANGARÉ (Mali) - World Stage   The only artist on the lineup that I had seen before. The “Songbird of Wassoulou” has continued to release quality albums and I knew this was guaranteed to be good. Oumou was the final act on the main stage on Sunday; a fitting end to the festival. Her band are a mix of Mali-based and French musicians; the keyboardist stood out in particular. Oumou looks positively regal to begin with, but loosens up once she takes off her high heels. She addresses the crowd mostly in French. Sound was exceptionally good for this gig, though it has to be said it was good on the whole, with the exception of the Sunflower stage, which was a bit muddled at times.   5. FRESHLYGROUND (South Africa) - Village Stage   Freshlyground are an Afropop band from Capetown, who have been around since 2002. After seeing several performers with laptops on stage, it was a relief to see such a seasoned band with real instruments (I love the flute). The band’s long-time singer went solo in 2019, and they are now fronted by 20-year-old Mali Makhoba, an very charismatic singer who describes herself as “just a girl from the township”. This is a very uplifting gig that draws a huge crowd to the relatively small Village Stage. They finish with their hit ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’, which they recorded with Shakira on vocals for the World Cup in 2010.   6. MÁDÉ KUTI (Nigeria) - Big Top   Son of Femi Kuti, grandson of Fela Kuti. 30-year-old Mádé Kuti is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and bandleader. He has a stellar band with him, including two energetic dancers, and together they put on a fabulous show. I saw Femi Kuti on the Womad main stage a few years ago, but I have to admit I enjoyed Mádé more. He pays tribute to his father and grandfather (he covers ‘Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am’), takes his place amongst the brass section so that other band members can solo, and brings his reluctant wife on stage for a dance (“She hates it when I do that!”).   7. SABINE MCCALLA (USA) - Village Stage   Sabine McCalla is from New Orleans, of Haitian descent, and the sister of Leyla McCalla, who played a great set at Womad 2024. Sabine is accompanied by a guitar player and her laid-back songs are perfect for an early afternoon set in near tropical weather. “Aligators are circling round Lake Pontchartrain”… I love that line from her song ‘Baby please don’t go’.   8. ANNIE AND THE CALDWELLS (USA) - World Stage   More music from the South, this time from Mississippi. Annie Caldwell played Womad a few years ago with the Staples Junior Singers. This time she has brought her family band, with three of her daughters singing. It is a slightly slicker affair and I have to admit I thought the gospel from the older group was even better.   9. MOHAMMED REZA MORTAZAVI (Iran) - Big Top   Mohammed is a percussionist extraordinaire. He plays an entire one hour set on a Persian drum that looks not unlike a bodhrán. It is incredible how many different sounds he gets out of this single instrument, just by using his two hands. His was a late show and by that time I had been up since 5 a.m. so I was struggling against sleep a little.   10. RUST (Lebanon / Syria ) - Sunflower Tent   Rust are Petra from Lebanon and Hany from Syria. They are based in Prague and they call their music electro tarab. I like Petra’s vocals very much, but would have loved to know a bit more about the songs. Hany stands behind a deck with equipment. Many of the songs build and build and end in banging techno, which goes down well at the midnight slot they occupy. Do check out their EP ‘Masaf’.   Disappointment:   Tian Qiyi (UK).  A band of two brothers, sons of Jah Wobble. Their mother is Chinese and there is a strong Chinese influence in their music. I had listened to their album ‘Red Mist’ and had high expectations, but found them disappointing live. The guys were playing and singing live, but everything else was recorded.    Would liked to have seen: Yegor Zabelov, accordion (Belarus) Bitoi, Scandi-folk with electronica (Sweden) Lemoncello (Ireland) Stafford Campbell (UK) Yasmine Hamdan (singer from Soapkills, Lebanon)   Heard good reports from fellow volunteers about: Barrington Levy (reggae/dancehall veteran, Jamaica) Wild Wild Women (hip hop girls from Mumbai, India) Ta Dhom Project (hip hop with percussion, India)   Womad 2027 will be from 23-26 July. www.womad.co.uk for tickets.   Helen.
    • Yeah I've seen the news he's off to Arsenal and do have a lot of musings. As said, it really feels like if tapping up was something people cared about that this could have potential to be seen as such at least, but I also agree that this summer, the board have been too feeble in resisting interest in our best players and need someone better able to tell the big fish to do one like others have. It's particularly galling as it feels that Arsenal showed a lot of disrespect with the use of intermediaries to do dirty work and the first offer that was pretty much what we paid to sign Bruno from Lyon 4 1/2 years ago.   It's definitely grating as well that Bruno seemed to go all in on making out he wanted to be a hero then pretty much used some of Isak's tactics to force an exit. Which means he's probably earned boos when Arsenal come to Tyneside in November. I'm not saying that for grandstanding - players come and go and I have no doubt Arsenal are offering more money and more chances of trophies in the next 2/3 years. But the player hasn't helped himself imo.    But it is what it is. This is a pretty extreme reset and means that every decision as far as incomings goes has to be flawless. Whether I'm expecting it to be so after last year's debacle is of course another matter. At the very least the belated new manager will have a lot to do. In a way I think it's a good thing it won't be Howe trying to replace Bruno though given our record without him was so bad and the tactical choices feel like they may end up leaning into a style that worked with him had Howe stuck around.
    • Weezer just announced a May tour so that's them ruled out.
    • Blimey, I thought it wasn’t going as well due to the pricing and as it didn’t fly out ticket sale day.    Incredible that people are paying it, not had a good album in about 20 years now. Quite disappointing at those prices as it’ll keep climbing if people keep paying unfortunately.
