Return coaches - how strict are they RE getting the correct time?

Me and my partner have 2 different timed return coaches to Manchester, hers is at 6.30am, mine is at 11.30am. What's the likelihood of us both being able to get the 11.30am coach?

I've heard some people say you can just turn up and as long as you have a valid ticket to the correct destination, they aren't too strict on which time coach you get. Is this correct?

Obviously if the coach is full with people who are on the correct one it might be tricky though...
