Medical/physio folk - advice please

Guest bexj

I have a condition known to me and my friends as Jarvis-knee - that is my knee collapses when dancing specifically to pulp songs. Not entirely sure what's wrong with it, physio thinks I maybe dislocating the knee cap, and im booked in for an mri scan.

Is there anything I can do to help it at Glastonbury? I will be resting it as much as possible, is it worth taking some of those "instant" ice packs.? What about strapping it up?

Thanks!

Does your physio usually suggest ice or heat? I'm not a physio or a medical person but did work for a medical company for a long time and both myself and my husband run so have had a fair few injuries that we've had to nurse. If ice helps I would recommend biofreeze gel. It is the best substitute for ice that I have found.

Have you got one of those compression tubes to keep things in place? Considering how little of the ground is flat and even that might be a good idea to wear all day, every day no matter what music is playing

I'm an ice girl, (prefer it with vodka though to be honest!) so I'll look out for some of that gel, thanks for the advice.

Thank you RUWise, I've just ordered some of that, looks just the job!

My lovely friends have offered to pull me around in a garden trolley....like you see kids at Glasto! haha! So if you see me, wave!! :-)

I suffer from knee issues as well, a previous injury involving a dislocation. Depends on your injury (lots of knee problems) but using a knee brace helps me. The gel stuff works but usually it needs a lot of rest. Have a look for some hinged knee braces, they can be expensive but they prevent my knee from any sort of issues, so I don't need to use the gel stuff :)

    • Another one from Sheffield DocFest this weekend, Earth Wind & Fire docu, directed by Questlove. Sensational archive footage, contributions from band members, family, plus a lot of very big fans (Stevie, Lionel, Flea, the Obamas) and a warts n all assessment of the genius / flawed human being that was Maurice White. Also, I never realised he started out as a jazz drummer with Ramsay Lewis. Well worth a watch.
