West CV Field and Separate Car Parking

Hi all,

Five of us are attending, staying in a caravan in the west campervan fields.　 We’ll have a car + caravan, so have a campervan ticket.　 However…

Three of us are travelling down on the Tuesday afternoon, in the car towing the caravan. I gather the CV fields are open from midday Tuesday.

The other two are travelling down Tuesday too, but in a separate car.　 I know they need to buy a separate car park ticket, and will need to park in the separate car parks.　 However, I have a few queries;

• They can’t park up in the normal car parks till 9pm Tuesday right?

• Can they park in the west-side car parks, closer to the west CV fields, or as they’re approaching from the east will they be directed to the east car parks? (The three of us with the caravan are also approaching from the east, but are in the west CV field with the white route).

• Can they access the west CV field, to join us on the Tuesday evening?　 Last time they met us on the Wednesday, when the festival site was open, but this time it will be before it opens.

I've emailed the Glasto office too, but figured someone on this forum is bound to know!

Your approach to Glastonbury is strangely enough entirely up to you... nothing is forcing your friends to arrive directly from the east.

So even though I'm driving to the Glastonbury west CV fields (with my caravan) from London, I will not be silly enough to drive to Glasto as the crow flies and arrive to it directly from the east... I will do the M4 to Bristol and then down the M5 to junction 23 and then the A39 to get to the western side of the festival. A lot more motorway than little country roads, which is easier with a caravan and can cope with congestion better. It will be as easy for your friends to do the same and thus ensuring they park in the west fields.

The only way for them to then get into the west CV field is via the festival and then via the gate there as far as I know. Once they are parked I don't think there is a way to walk safely from the west car parks to the west CV field. And even if they could, once there I'm not sure how the security works to enable them to get into the west CV field from outside.

Yeah I was wondering how easy it would be for them to get from the car park into the west CV field Tuesday evening. The fact that they can't park up till 9pm anyway may change things. I think we're all going to squeeze into the one car. Although we'll have a caravan in tow, we're limited as to the amount of stuff we can put in there for the journey. It might just be one cramped journey down.

I could be easier and saves you on buying a car park ticket as well as the coordination nightmare to find each other... As long as you load the beer over the caravan axle (or in the car) and spread the rest out nicely you should be fine five up in the car.

In case this helps anyone, here's the reply I got from those kind and genuinely really helpful folks in the Glaso office:

The general car parks open at 9pm on Tuesday 24^th June & your friends can chose to park in either the West or East side of the Festival.

If they approach from the East they will be directed by stewards to the East side car parks. It is important that you approach the site on the side that you want to park.

Using local roads to get to the opposite side of the site causes delays so use main roads that are well away from the site. A few extra miles travelled further away can save hours in queues near to the site. They should always follow the directional signs, variable message signs and park where directed by staff.

Once they have parked they can make their way to the West campervan field on the Tuesday evening by foot – they will need to ask the stewards directions when they arrive.

Can't remember the route I did from east to west in 2011, but that does sound familiar. Because I wasn't driving and had 'started early' I can't recall.

Alternative route from London to west car parks, which I've used the last few years....take the A303, get off at the A372 just before Yeovil, then turn onto the B3151 towards Street. Go through Street, then take the A361 through Glastonbury town & on to the west car parks. We won't go any other way now, it's tradition!!

Thanks Mario man. But with a caravan on tow I prefer boring motorways as far as possible. Also the A303 past Stonehenge is all sorts of hell in my book, where it goes from two lanes to one. Never ever have I gone past there without the rubberneckers causing a delay. Even with the old road to Stonehenge now gone it's still a bottleneck. So generally I do anything to avoid the A303.

That's true, I read on another thread that there are roadworks overnight - which will impact some people.
