What's camping like at Big Ground?

Hi all :) I've done a quick forum search but couldn't find what I was looking for so apologies if I'm duplicating efforts... But! What are people's experiences of camping at Big Ground? In particular:

How fast does it fill up? We're travelling overnight on Tues so should be getting in pretty early (jinx!) I know it fills up quickly but what times have you seen it full by in the past? (There's about 20 of us)

Does it smell awful? I know that's around the area they empty the longdrop 'mess'?

Would you recommend anywhere else? (Except Pennards)

Thanks in advance :)

Small bit of info on big ground here: http://www.glastoearth.com/the-faq/faq-part-3

It fills up fast, last time we got in roughly when it started raining - I'd guess about 11? And it was fairly full but we found room for several tents in the middle of the field. Think we got to the car park 7/8 am, and got in through gate C. I would say any later and we had little chance.

Does it smell? Not that I've noticed - nice toilets up the top of the field, and it might smell towards that end, it usually looks pretty grim the toilet end of any field though.

In terms of other recommendations it depends what you like - Big Ground is fairly relaxed despite being near 'the main stage', reasonably quiet at night. I've camped in Dairy Field too and I guess it was similar. Also depends what stages / areas you think you might be at when you'll be wanting to pop back to the tent or get back to bed.

We've camped in Big Ground many times. It's our location of choice. Reasonably quiet at night apart from the generators at the top, though they've never stopped me sleeping. Decent clean flushing toilets, close to an ATM and all night cafe.

Good location if you lean towards the Acoustic Tent type of music. Bit far for dance.

The camping area really close to the main roadway is pretty stony and difficult to put tent pegs in.

Does anyone know roughly how long it would take to walk from gate A to Big Ground? We were going to drive and park in the East carparks - now we're getting the train so I'm not sure if aiming for Big Ground is still a good idea. I think our train should get to Castle Cary about 8:30...who knows how long it'll take from there though!

    • He was also arrested for allegedly punching his pregnant girlfriend.   Such a charmer.
    • George Borg - now he was a character. Both terrifying and endearing, often in the space of 5 minutes. Entertaining times back then!
    • Shamelessly got AI to put my lineup prediction into a poster. This is based on Wacken and what I think we may get generally. Could just as easily replace Knocked Loose with Malev because it’ll be one of the other. Wish we could have a scenario where they co-headline and each get like 75mins or something.
    • There’s normally a high churn but to only have one bit-part player left from the season before is very strange - unless you go into administration. Our new manager made his signings early - mainly from the league below - so interesting to see what happens.
    • As has been said Trump wasn't lying when he said he has solved multiple wars.   I mean he's ended the Iranian war at least 9 times so far and counting...
