It's a personal choice, one which I don't think there's a right or a wrong answer. Not a sweeping across the board one anyway. Each circumstance is different.

I'm saying what my preference from a fatherhood perspective, and having those feelings I find a differing perspective strange.

Obviously, I understand financial reasoning, if circumstances change. I don't understand choosing that way from the outset.

I think it's strange that you think it's strange. We couldn't have had our second daughter without us both working. Are you saying poor people shouldn't have kids?

What do you mean by circumstances changing? If you can't pay the bills on one income before you have kids, you can't afterwards either.

I think there are very very few people that applies to in the UK. I'm saying I'd prefer to cut costs in other parts of my life to pay for a child, or a second child, that would allow having a parent at home.

It's for a comparatively short time. From the end of maternity leave to when a child is old enough to go to school (which then allow the parent at home the opportunity to earn whilst the child is at school).

I doubt there are many people in low level jobs who could afford to have one parent working full time

But lots of people are not in this situation. Some couples earn below the average wage even combining their income.

Therefore you hold the same thoughts as I then. The only difference is your belief is the plusses of the second child outweigh the minuses of having the second child but having both parents work. I don't.

Same here. There are lots of people trapped on benefits who genuinely can't afford to work, because their wages wouldn't cover the bills.

there was no choice. It's the same for thousands of families

Some of us are able to concieve of how other people might live their lives without actually having to live that life. I think it's strange, and unbearably frustrating, that some people don't seem to have that ability.
