Drinking own alcohol onsite

hello all

It will be my first time at Glasto in 2013 and just wanted to know from any veterans out there what the policy on food and drink (but mainly drink!!) is. Are you only allowed to consume your own alcohol in the camp sites only or are there entertainment areas that you can drink your own booze? we're thinking of taking a campervan so it would be a hell of a long walk to go and have a drink in the middle of the day. we're fairly big drinkers so any money saving tips would be most welcome.

There is no separate campsite and arena - it's all one big space inside the fence.

You can take in an unlimited amount of alcohol (but NO GLASS) ... within reason, anyway. If you were taking in lorry-loads to sell they'd probably stop you.

You can take the booze with you wherever you like inside the fence.

what I missed from that is that the campervan areas are outside the fence. But you can take booze in with you each day with no need to hide it - it's allowed.

There's no arena and no stupid 'campsite only' booze rules. You take whatever you want wherever you want as long as it's not glass.

As for saving money, I'll be honest the drinks onsite are pretty expensive. Loads of people take crates of canned lager/cider/bitter - keeping it cold can be a challenge (your campervan might have a fridge, of course!) Personally I take boxed wine, and there's lots of threads on here about making flavoured vodkas (decanted into plastic bottles of course).

Take a backpack, fill it up, carry and enjoy!

Perfect!! Just what I wanted to hear. I'll stick some wine or vodka into the old ruck sack

We freeze 2ltr bottles of cider before setting off, and by the time we have arrived and set the tent up, it's lovely having a chilled cider slushy before heading out.

I usually fill small water bottles with vodka/gin/brandy to take with me, when there, take an empty one out with me so I can buy a cold bottle of coke to mix it with whilst out and about of an eve.
