what was the latest bar that was open this year?

I dont know why but everything seemed very early to me - everything shut at 2/3am (its hazy!), especially on the saturday night in the markets the bars were shut early - i could of sworn they were open later last year, just seemed very quiet.

even though ive been many times before i can never quite gauge where's best for a late beverage?

I know the bimble was open til 5 / 6am but would they have still been serving?

I think the latest one i had was just before that applejacks or something (cant remember the name) in shangri-la closed and that was on the sunday about 3ish (possibly) i was probably the last to get served in there.

Well the latest bar was the bar I was working at but its a WBC staff bar.

I am afraid its a fact of life that when the WBC ran a experiment and kept a few bars open 24 hours per day { and no I don't have a clue when it was as I have worked at so many } the bars lost money { due to the extra staffing cost } and as far as I am aware there is no plans to ever keep them open 24 hours per day although other operators may think its a good idea but I expect they will find there is not much demand.

Each Bar has a Tent Manager and they will make a on the spot decision as its all down to demand hence why Bar A may close sooner than Bar B so its not like a local pub that has set times.

I understand the reasons for closing early etc - was just wondering where the latest beverage was to be had.. so i can make a note for 2013! haha

With the amount of people about, especially on the saturday when i was having a walk through the market area, I would of thought they would of been open as long as possible.. it did seem quite early on the saturday.

It may be early for you but if you are working a late shift and then a early shift the next day

a few hours extra can make all the difference and while I am sure I can find someone who wants to drink very late { or very early } the numbers don't stack up .

There is a lot of people working behind the scenes that most people don't ever see that keeps the bars stocked and the machinery { MDU's - coolers etc etc } working so when you add it all together there is a tipping point and when bar takings fall under a certain level its uneconomic to keep on going so the plug is pulled.

Its always possible to find a bar open until 2 or 3 am but anytime after that can be tricky.

I was working at Hop farm in the campsite bar { which mainly sells cans } and while there was a big demand after Prince ended as most people were buying four cans at a time { as it was cheaper } once the queue dropped away we gave people 1/2 hours notice and there was no mad rush and in that last 1/2 hour sales had dropped to 10% what it was the 1/2 hour before - sure we could have kept opened but its just not viable + they could buy a case of beer/cider so no one was desperate for a drink.We left everyone sitting at tables outside the bar and I bet it was another hour before they worked out the bar was closed .

I was dissapointed with how early things closed in general. By the time you get back to the tent after headliners and out it seemed you had maybe 2 hours of partying before it wound down. The most confusing was the silent disco. Why that closed at 3 I have no idea, the point of it seems to me that it can go later... There was still that big open DJ area in Shangri-La open til late but it's not a bar and (IMO) it wasn't playing good music.

I was still dancing in a bar / tent at 9.30am, was passing by at 7ish on me back to me tent and it was open, went on in and put down some moves to the Cure and more...awesome. I was spannered, so cant quite remember where this was!!

The Cockmill Bar in the Acoustic field decided to close before Brit Floyd's set finished to avoid the rush. Very strange attitude if you ask me.

The Cockmill Bar is run by Avalon Bars and Events and is not connected to the WBC but I do know the license for that bar ends at midnight.

They have less reserves of staff so it may have been a staffing issue or they may have been short of supplies.

So what time did they clear the bar at ? { they normally close the doors to prevent extra Customers from walking in and will then have a drinking up period }

I happen to know the guy who was running that bar and he is a Director of Avalon so there is no way he would close that bar without a bloody good reason.

Its been Midnight as far as I can remember for donkey years although the last time I worked in that specific bar { Red Flag } was 1983 or 1984.

Looking at the list from Avalon it has to be the busiest bar they have.

I know that the WBC made a trading loss at Glastonbury in 2011 - a combination of the weather and site fee's so it would have been touch and go for Avalon as well hence why there is no way they would close a bar early.

Each bar has a specific time depending on its location and a bar operator cant exceed that time.

I was planning to see Brit Floyd as well but it took me all my time to reach Melanie { who was playing at the Spirit of 71 stage } that I decided not to risk it as the Acoustic field is even further away from my Crew Camp at Gate D.

Its just pure sods law that they all clashed on the same night.
