Gogol Bordello back in 2011?

Gogol are essentially a roma-punk band. If you listen to a lot of roma music, you'll discover that, in the main, it's party music. There's a lot of humour (Balkan-style) in it. Gogol are no different.

There's a huge swathe of good music coming from Eastern Europe and has been for years.

Gogol and Balkan Beat Box probably are the best known over here, but there are other good ones:

RotFront (Ukrainian emigrees in Germany)

Fanfare Vagabontu (Moldovan/Romanian emigrees in France)

The No-Smoking Orchestra

Fanfare Ciocarlia

Shantel (German DJ of Romanian stock)

OMFO (Odessa-based electronica).

Slightly back on topic, I'd love any of those to play this year.

You know nothing of me or my prejudices. I express 'distaste' at their music as I think it's crap. There's lots of other music I dislike, which by your argument means I'm prejudiced against all of them because of their ethnicity. If so, then I'm prejudiced against all races and ethnic groups, including my own.

You f**king idiot.

hmmm......... It now appears unlikely Gogol Bordello will be at glastonbury as there calendar now says:

Thursday 23rd - Prague, Czech Republic

Saturday 25th - Kazan, Russia

Sunday 26th - Perm Russia

I know the friday is still free and we can live in hope but it seems a bit out of the way to fly to from the Czech Republic to the UK to go back east towards Russia the next day!

fingers crossed for the friday though!

    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
    • I'm definitely not camping 🙂.  My 17 year old Daughter and her friends are there 3 days and commuting back to Sheffield each day as didn't want to camp .  I am taking and picking up the Saturday so thought I may as well get a ticket as love Fontaines DC - need to do a lot of research on the other acts though to fill my day.    I walked through the camp site other year the day Arctic Monkeys played and it was like a War Zone.  My Son has camped a couple of times but didn't fancy my Daughter staying over.
    • Not at all impressed with Polanski saying "noone should be barred from public life" wrt the Tory neo-nazi. I really don't think "no nazis in politics" should be an excessive standard.
