I've always imagined a headline Festival Republic would suit them, especially up against the usual NME pish on the Main Stage.

Not in Ash's prime but now yeah, example Ash a few months ago played Electric Ballroom capacity 1.3k Eels playing Brixton Academy capacity 5k.

The diffference is Ash play all the time, Eels don't. I'd still say for the casual festival goer Ash are bigger. Eels could definately headline the Festival Republicv and I'd be sure it wouldn't be packed out.

They played V fest this year, 5 the 2nd stage and went down well.

If you stick them up against two strong headliners on The Main and Radio 1 they would get a decent crowd but it wouldn't be packed out. The demographic at R&L has changed and although Eels are amazing, I doubt they'd get a huge crowd.

If Eels played here as often as those other bands, chances are they'd be playing similar sized gaffs.

They play the UK irregularly and only in a limited number of venues, so people will travel to see them and they can therefore fill out Brixton. People from Oxford for instance are not going to travel to London to see Ash.

Up against the equivalent of Arcade Fire on the Main Stage and LCD Soundsystem in the tent and Eels would be just about right in the FR I reckon.

Similarly, they could play midway on the main stage (like the other bands you've mentioned) and fit in fine

And how does that make them FR headliners? The trend for FR headliners is a side projects, up coming and small festive faves. To make the effort to get them would mean main stage or 2nd, as you'd have what happened with NoFX and a fall out and you have to deal with the predigree of the act too and the fee they would command to play would be too big for the tiny stage.

If not in The festival Republic I'd say they'd be about 5th down on The Main Stage.

i'd say 6th down on main. they were 6th last time they played and have only got smaller. But i think they'd still be able to pull off 6th.
