Well this week my havfever has gone off on a wild one and I can't go 2 minutes without sneezing, joy! Although I remember it was terrible this time last year and I wondered how I'd cope in fields for 5 days but as soon as I walked on site it all cleared up entirely for the duration. There is hope for all us sufferers yet B)

Most people are mis-diagnosed with hayfever.

It is actually more likely to be a dustmite allergy, as I discovered yesterday.

You may be slightly allergic, but not enough to notice. But combined with warm climate in a house, that could have a lot of dust normally tips people over.

Thus.

Why in large open ventilated areas.

I dont suffer that bad at the fest, even though I go through a box of kleenex a week.

Go to a doctor and ask for a RASP test. And it could be revealing

also, go to boots, get bennadryl plus. They are much stronger if you have shite hayfever like meself.

55.94 Allergic to Dust mites

and

6.74 Allergic to Pollen

Apparantly once you get into the 60's combined you are going to get pretty stuffy.

Including the .94 allergic to dog

and 4% grass. I am well into the 60s so explains why I am f**ked over here lol

I've had it really bad for the last week or so. My nose has been constantly running, I'm constantly sneezing and I can't stop rubbing my eyes. Hopefully it will clear up at Glasto, but it says that there's going to a high pollen count there this weekend. :(

Yep, mine is bad too :( - I only get it in June, must be a certain kind of tree flowering. Stupid trees.

Have stocked up on Benadryl - what is this Benadryl PLUS people speak of? Sounds like a good plan... anyone else finds that antihistamines mean you get a pissed a bit quicker too?!

I am also a massive hay fever sufferer. I actually ended up in the medic tent in 2008 at glastonbury as my reaction got so bad -had the super itchy eyes along with everything else, ended up rubbing them and suddenly the "white" of my eyes swelled up. So i trotted off to the medic tent / field hospital pronto and got seen by a doc up there. A couple anti-histamine tablets later and they were back to normal. It was quite a scare though when it happened.

Anyway, the point of this is after that event I did a lot of research on the internet hunting down forums of hay fever sufferers and all that to try find something that works. I came across a lot of good reports about a product called Beconaise Hayfever - 180 sprays (its behind the counter at boots, the one you are after is the £7.99 one, not the cheaper Beconaise spray). I gave it a try and have not looked back since. Being a nasal spray not everyone would be keen to use it, but if you can handle two quick squirts up each nostril twice a day, I'd highly recommend it. Out of all the tablets and eye drops I've ever tried, this stuff is the only thing that works properly for me (obviously your mileage may vary..). I also do not get groggy or any of the other side effects I have had from various tablets, so if you're struggling with hay fever give it a go.

From what I can tell it takes a day or two to get into your system properly, and obviously being a nasal spray you need to be able to breath in through your nose to take it. I find if i've got a bunged up nose, have a hot steamy shower, blow your nose immediately afterwards then use the nasal spray. It has a decongestant in it so keeps your nose clear afterwards.

Edit: Here's a link to a "net doctor" page about this nasal spray: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100005029.html

Being the bargain hunter that I am I tend to go for the cheapest deal off the shelf - but I still look like an alien come 2 mornings in a lovely field ! so I may try this nose spray stuff to see if its more effective - I assume its too stong for kids?

I find that the Benadryl tablets in the blue packet work best for me (the active ingredient in these being acrivastine, not cetirizine like the orange packet).

Nothing else touches my hayfever.
