Pennards advice

One of the best things about Glasto for me is getting to spend time with my sister as I don't see her that often. We were planning to camp in Row Mead or thereabouts - were there last year and it was great- close to Mandela bar, loos and really handy for Pyramid / John Peel etc where we watched most of the acts. BUT she just told me all her mates are camping in Pennards and the girl she is sharing a tent with wants to camp with them, so she wants us to move there instead. I'm really reluctant to camp there though - apart from the noise and the 'party central' reputation (it's not the rowdiness, it's the gurner falling into my tent at 5am that I'm worried about), it seems to be miles from the Pyramid where about 50% of acts we want to watch are on this year, and my boyf has a bad ankle at the moment so we ideally want to avoid long distances.

What's people's experiences of getting from Pennards to the Pyramid / JP? Is it worth it for the atmos / being close to the late night areas? Will we even be able to get in there seeing as about half the people on these boards seem to be planning on camping there??

I was there in/near last year, in my opinion its reputation as an up for it all hours location is somewhat overstated (thankfully). Ear-plugs (free from the information booths) sort most problems with the noise. The 'gurner' issue, I never encountered it in pennards iteself (though a fair bit of it around the festival). The party central is now the late night areas and the easy access to the park wich has some late stuff going on. This draws most of the party people away (not to mention the stone circle, loverly place but too many appaling people, too many drunk yahoos playing with chinnese balloon lanterns and lit flares, punctuated every 20 seconds or so with the sound of gas being let off! I just don't feel safe there).

JP, either bimble down through the dance field or the lane that goes between it and compound beind the main stages (lined with traders). The pyramid is about 10-20 minutes away depending on crowds. When it is really busy, it is often easier to go make your way to the John Peel and then hook a left when you are the other side of the dance village/compound. That route is often a lot less of a crush than through the markets and accross that bridge between the other feild and the markets.

Thanks, that's set my mind at rest a fair bit - I always take ear plugs anyway, if only to block out the boyf's beer-induced snoring ;) That route between Pyramid/Other stages between all the food stalls can be nightmarish in good weather - throw in a recently twisted ankle and any kind of mud and it gets pretty miserable pretty quickly! If we end up in Pennards (which is seeming increasingly likely) I'll probably take your advice and go via Dance field/JP towards Pyramid.

Was planning on exploring the after hours stuff more this year anyway so I guess it could be a blessing in disguise...!

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
    • Yup and they aren't all going to get them, some are going to miss out. Speaking of this, I met someone at RIP who went to RFP and his view was band wise it's value for money but it wasn't a festival itself he'd be rushing to return to. In fairness as well he probably liked more of the headliners there than me this year whereas I was more undercard and he wasn't returning.
    • Maybe Starmer's legacy will be a war with Russia.
    • How were GnR? Seen some videos and pictures and let's just say, the crowd to the sides at the front and in front of the sound tents were let's just say... Sparse compared to LB.
