Advice for a first timer?

Guest GlastoBoy!

Right,

i know your all probably sick of these threads for first timers but it would be much appreciated if you can recommend anything for a first timer, it can be anything from music to see to food to eat or where to camp!

Any advice will be great and will hopefully make me better prepared for glasto and have a better overall festival.

Some things i'm still pondering is where to camp, i want a few hours sleep so somewhere were people arent going to be partying all night but i dont want there to be no athmosphere at all?

Also what essential things like baby wipes and earplugs do you also recommend i bring?

Thanks

When entering the site, you will be wristbanded, Wristbands have dangly bits. It will greatly enhance your festival experience if you ensure that the wrist with the dangly bits, is not the same side as the hand that you use to wipe your bottom with.

Have a great festival, we have two newbie's in our group and they are about to pop with excitement.

Hunt around the pages, yours is far from the first such request like this this week.

Wet wipes yes, ear plugs, unless you have some posh ones, standard foam ones are available from the info points on site, often bog roll as well.

Also are you comming by car or public transport? Alone or with a group and can you trust the group to organise so that you can split up stuff between each other? These make more difference to your planning and packing than you can imagine!

Make a list of things to pack instead of just wandering in a daze around your house thinking of things you might want and stuffing them in your rucksack. Makes the whole process much more efficient and relaxed. For advice on stuff to take see any number of threads on here.

For the right mix between buzz and ability to sleep I'd head for the Park Home or Dairy Ground kind of area. Then how far up the hill you go is up to you. Further up means more peace and quiet and a better view. Further down means more activity and quicker access to the stages.

I have no fewer than 3 Glasto-virgins (and i think all festival virgins too!) in tow this year. My advice is search for "glasto virgin" and "first time" on these threads and have a read. but in a nutshell it will all boil down to:

1.Take Wetwipes

2.Drink a Brothers cider

3.Only Ear-mark up a maximum of 5 acts per day to see

4.Visit the Stonecircle

5.RELAX and WONDER AROUND and see what you find. You won't fail to be pleasantly surprised. If you plan out everything around the main stage performances you are missing out on 70% of the festival!

Those are all I can remember without actually searching myself and my top tips. I cannot stress point 5 enough! Also don't expect to do or see everything. Chances are you will only see a fraction of what you would like to and that is what keeps us all coming back for more year on year!

Wet wipes (for everything), hand sanitiser gel, do not attempt top see acts that have closeish timings if it requires moving from ,say, the John Peel tent to the Acoustic tent(unless you can run a mile in 4 minutes, in wellies in deep mud through crowds!), and make sure you get your bearings by going on the monorail early on.

Another mum-ish one is please, PLEASE remember to wear sunscreen, even if it's only a bit sunny, and remember to reapply. I nearly ruined my first festival in 2003 by getting so sunburned and I was really ill, and then I couldn't even have a nice shower when I got home as my shoulders were so sore!

But seriously, your first festival will be AMAZING - enjoy every second!

Cheers everyone for advice, it'll hopefully make it a better experience :)

Yeah, we are driving down and hopefully will be set up and sorted in time for the football on wednesday, were planning on setting off around 3/4 in the morning wednesday, coming from derbyshire so we should be alright, all these horror 8 hour queing stories that go around, any truth in them, should we be expecting to be sat in our car for 8 hours?
