Car Parking Question

Guest indieboy

Recommended Posts

I'm a Glasto first timer so hopefully you'll cut me some slack if this is a dumb question!!

I'm just wondering exactly how far away are the car parks to the campsites? I've got a car park pass which says on the back of it to put your car park sticker "in the middle of the windscreen behind rear view mirror, at least 10 miles from site." Now this is a HUUUUGE distance to the site if i was bringin my gear, so is there some sort of shuttle bus to and from these car parks?

Also I'm back in work on Monday morning :( so does anyone have any advice in which car park to park in to try and get away "quick?"

Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

Not a silly question. Car parks are right next to the site but depending on which one you get in, will depend on the length of walk.

What time are you arriving? You don't really have a choice on car park, just end up where you are put. In general the earlier you get there, the closer to the site you are likely to be.

The car parks are right next to the site, however the site is huge. So depending where you camp (and where you end up parking - as Laura_Babs says, you won't get a choice where as stewards will direct you) you could end up with quite a long walk carrying your gear. So best to pack as light as possible or invest in a decent sack trolley to help you transport your stuff.

The reason that you're asked to put the car park sticker up when you're within 10 miles of the site is because it makes it easier for festival stewards/police/etc to see that you are festival traffic. Pilton is a small rural village - they tend to try and prevent non-festival traffic from driving near the site to ease congestion.

Thanks guys! Laura_Babs I'm not comin down til Thursday morning! In a way this may pay off since I may be able to get out a little quicker on Sunday night!

Anyone else had any experience of how long it takes to get off the site after it's finished on Sunday night?

It says on the leaflet sent with the tickets that the best car park to use for a quicker exit is the east car parks?!

all much of a muchness really, even the worst traffic jams don't seem that bad at Glasto. I'd give at least a two hour duration from starting the car to get to clear roads on the Sunday night. But they do seem to get better at traffic managment every year so could be half hour.

A lot depends on where you are coming from and where you want to camp. If you want to camp on the west side of the site try and amend your route so you park on the west side, and the opposite with the East side. Wherever you park there will be a long walk to a campsite but dont worry about.

If you are leaving Sunday night, I would advise packing and moving your stuff to your car on Sunday morning, that way you can leave straight after the entertainment and the queuing will be less.

The furthest i have ever been was when arriving on a Friday from the West. Got put in overspill car parks and the walk to the gate was about an hour so probably a couple of miles (carrying gear). The best thing to do is be prepared to carry you stuff a long way, if you are close then see that as a bonus.

One more hint is make sure you remember what field the car is in and where abouts it is.
