"the ethos of the festival."

An interesting phrase to use. Have we become so inured to the draconian system by which we have to apply for and purchase Glastonbury tickets that we now believe that this system is part of the "ethos of the festival"? No other festival makes itself so hard to get to, and many argue that the demographic of people who now go to Glastonbury (because they have the means and wherewithall to actually get tickets) is totally different to what it was 10 years ago.

As far as I'm concerned, one person selling one ticket isn't a problem. It's only illicit because Glastonbury do their best to ensure the ticket is non-transferable. Touts will find a way around any system.

The cancellation shouldnt make a difference.

She would be a bit daft if she hadnt contacted the people bidding to sort a private sale out before the ticket was cancelled...

Whoever reported her should be ashamed of themselves.

Stop being hardnosed little bastards and give somebody the chance of going to a festival ( you've probably already got your tickets sorted hence the ridiculous attitude)

As previously mentioned, the girl may have had to pull out for numerous reasons, she's starting the bidding at face value allowing people to decide how much they want to pay for the ticket, if someone wanted to pay £2000 pound for it then fair enough, its got nothing to do with you...

Theres a huge huge difference between a girl selling her ticket at face value and a tout who buys 20 and sells them for £400 each, it seems as though a small minority of people on this forum need to give their heads a wobble and try and think in someone elses shoes for a change.

except of course that

1) she could have got ticket insurance &

2) friends of mine have got tickets from see in the past from returned tickets after the refund date. these people are preventing these sales through touting their tickets

i don't care if someone is selling 1 ticket or 100, if they want more than face-value plus booking fees they're touting.

Aside all the completely valid points about this auction in particular being plain wrong, it still amazes me how people on this forum that I'd expect to be folks with a love of music in general come on and defend the indefensible, with the utterly ridiculous arguments of supply and demand, what people are willing to pay, microeconomics, honest opportunities, and all the other BULL that gets spouted. These economic principles simply do not apply in this arena (pun intended)

What touting does plain and simple is deny fans the chance to see the performers they enjoy, whether it stops one fan, or 20,000, it still prevents someone somewhere from buying a ticket from the official outlet at face value.

The girl in this case may well have been telling the truth about being unable to go, I somehow doubt it and it's completely indistinguishable from someone buying a ticket with the express intention on ripping a genuine fan off for hundreds of pounds later as the excitement grows, and the bit she put about going dressed as the Fonejacker and you'll be fine makes me think it more likely the latter.....

Sadly it doesn't suprise me in the least to see a load of cretins on here defending touting.

It just reflects the generally selfish attitude people seem to have these days.

I bet you most of the people saying they would so the same are 21 or younger.

Because she wanted to make a fat profit she deserves to lose her £185 + £4.95 p&p. I dislike touts.

What is it about a face value buy-it-now auction that some people on this board find so difficult to comprehend?

It all makes me pine for the days when you wandered into the Odeon box office and bought your Glastonbury ticket over the counter.

Of course, in those days, if it sold out (which it didn't) there was always fence-jumping to fall back on.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
